    Freelander 2 tyres ?? Haldex?

OK - I'm well up to speed on my Freelander 1 - tyre matching/VCU monitoring/IRD wrecking etc - but a total newbie on the FL2. Question 1:- Is the normal Haldex road-going mode not pure 2 wheel drive other than at take-off? And so - is tyre matching as critical as on the FL1 - I know it's...

    What car next?

A man of decision (:-))> - Actually I was lucky to find the right weight of vehicle/age/price for both of my chosen options in one place very locally (after hours of trolling the web) so I could show 'er indoors and let her choose - why agonise - fortunately she chose my preference. Time will...

    What car next?

Well - after a lorralorra searching I found a cracking dealer on my doorstep who had the two vehicles I had sussed out for my Missus as fullfilling her preferences and mine - An HSE FL2 if she felt it was not too big (it.s 4" wider than the FL1) and a VW Tiguan if she wanted a more compact...

    What car next?

Wow - Thanks for the response Hippo - I have yet to drive one - or for that matter it's contemporary competition - but that's on the agenda for sure. Thinks - Do I really need three landrovers ( my other one is a S2A LTWT V8/101 gearbox ANIMAL) - Yeah - why not - yer a long time dead!

    What car next?

My Missus keeps stealing my 05 HSE TD4 Auto. Her Pug 406 is reaching the end of it's usefull life. What do I get her next? I have heard some say they were disappointed with the FL2 (why?)- but if not that what have people liked best when they moved on? She would be happy with her own F1 Auto HSE...

MOT tomorrow. To EGR or not to EGR?

I cleand my EGR and refitted it for the MOT - only takes a few minutes - also got a look down the inlet tract and it looks just clean and oily after circa 10k miles on the bypass - clamped the vac pipe to the EGR 'cos i did not want to ingest any accumulated crud behind it. I don't know if I'll...

    td4 intermittent non starter

Try the simple stuff first - in my case a mysterious failure to crank came down to a slack/corroded connector to the solenoid - that little wire on top of the stater - I only found it by getting the Missus to keep switching off on crank and me jiggling around under the bonnet - when I yanked...

What have you done to your Freelander today

    I spent a year a bit back making the excuse "I'm 73 y'know" - got to my birthday and said "I'm 74 y'know" Kids corrected me - "no - you are now 73" - I had miscounted - Gota free year at '73 (;-))>

    Freelander 1 TD4 auto 2003, 18MPG

It's such a nice car running as it should - enjoy it - as it should be - the checks you need to do are simple - tyre maintenance is crucial but only good sense in any vehicle. Can't see the point in having one if you'r going to largely spoil it's handlng and pay more for the priviledge

series landy UJ to CVs ?? or an affordable authentic alternative?

Well - there would be negligible speed difference at the hub when disengaged as the diff lock would be in and driving the front axle (instead of the other way round in a standard series vehicle in two wheel drive) only the wind-up creating small speed differences - no parts would be under any...

series landy UJ to CVs ?? or an affordable authentic alternative?

Thanks wireman - :-Having read a bit further I think the cv halfshafts are too big to fit in the series axle casing - so even though splines and driveplates look interchangable (maybe?) it's an entire axle change as you suggest. I think I shall check my handling with the front prop off and the...

series landy UJ to CVs ?? or an affordable authentic alternative?

I have a Series 2a Lightweight with 3.54 diffs, V8, LT95 gearbox with the short101 bellhousing. I am still on original fronthalf shafts with UJs. what route do I take to fit constant velocity joints? - Would 109 v8 half shafts fit? I can't find a description of whats involved.

    Droplinks

I bought two cheap droplinks from euroautomotive on ebay for a Xantia because one had a little play and a perished gaiter - fitted one - the other stayed in the garage for a couple of years - went to fit it as another gaiter perished - both gaiters on the unused one were perished and split -...

    Suddenly no starter??

Ugh - troubles back - this time nothing to do with oil as I have been running this week after my final oil and filter change and all was sweet. Then:- Today stopped after a short run - went to restart - nothing - after much jiggling of relays and fuses and multiple battery disconnects got...
