    300 TDI oil leak

If he's run the engine, the oil will splash about and could leak. But he's not put oil in so it can't be from the sump.

He's says he's found one on eBay, so I'll leave him to it. I'll give him a hand to open it up, wouldn't the lock be hi tensile steel or some other type of unbreakable/cut-able metal.

    300 TDI oil leak

If from the rear, it could be from the main seal. But you haven't run it up, because you have no oil in the pan. Maybe remove it and see if you can see it tracking down

    300 TDI oil leak

It can't be from the sump, if you haven't put oil in yet and it's a new sump?? It must be from another source.

Good call, I'll suggest eBay. He's got a cabinet already, with 2 locks in the door. He has got the key stuck in the top lock and can't get it opened. He asked a local lock smith and was told it would be around £300 for call out and trying to open it. Plus they might even damage it, so he would...

    Disco 1 200tdi with a Euro 4 catalytic converter

Use cooking oil, that will give you a better exhaust flavour. If you use old chip oil, you will get the aroma of a chip shop

    Disco 1 200tdi with a Euro 4 catalytic converter

Maybe time to get a battery car. These are old vehicles that were ok when they were built. The fumes that we breath in these days, is nothing like 30-40-50 years ago, when buses, trucks and taxis belched out black soot, more people used coal to heat their homes. Today's air quality is miles...

    Tax?

Has it got a V5, if you got it from a scrap yard, it may have been had the V5 marked as scraped.

Tax + MOT exemption... I'm confused!

I went up to our local PO and handed the V5's over for the GT6 and the Mini. All I had to do, was fill in part of it with 'Historic vehicle' and he taxed them there and then. A week later, the new V5's returned and the new tax category was Historic vehicle. Really easy.

    Now sorted !!!

There's a cottage near to us, that had about 6 D1's in the large garden, all overgrown. Some early 2 door versions too. I stopped by a few times (in the D1) and asked what was happening with them. 'all are projects' was the answer and they belonged to her son, who was abroad. I left my number...

    Disco 3 (LR3) Mot fail

My mate loves his later Rangie and spends thousands on it, it looks stunning but almost monthly, something else needs replacement or fixed. I aways say that, for the money these things cost, they should last longer than they do. I had an old Nissan Terrano which didn't let us down, or drip oil...

    Disco 3 (LR3) Mot fail

It always looks worse when you start a job like that Gary, but as the old rusty metal is cut away and new metal is let in, it's a great feeling. As always, the help and advice from the forum is fantastic (and a bit of friendly pee taking) and you will have your lovely Disco back on the road soon.
