    Classic Pump replacement

No hole in the floor & the 'dropping' method is no job for a pensioner working out in the open, even with help o_O There won't be 'a next time' as the car is likely to be moved on next Spring/Summer as there are plans afoot for the money it should raise. I've had the old girl (62K & only 2...

    Classic Pump replacement

I may have to replace the fuel pump on my '87 V8. The thought of removing towing gear & dropping the tank on a 36 year old RR is scary, so I wondered if removing the floor would be a better idea. I'm led to believe the corrugated panel is alloy, but can anyone advise me as to the best procedure...

    Looking for a 4.0l V8

Believe it or not, one of the best products to use is Coca Cola .. no I'm not joking ;) Back in the 'nineties I freed off a WW2 Dodge engine that had been standing for 5 years. Took the head off (side-valve engine) filled the cylinders with CC & left it for a week. First heave on the starting...

    Compression ratio change 3.5 v8

Late to the party I know, but I have done this to a 3.5efi & agree with Henry .. no perceivable effect on performance & I found that a slight increase in ignition advance was possible when using 95 octane fuel when the 'book' says 97.

    Got an itch

So having owned 'proper' RR's you are now contemplating JLR's offerings .. have you considered psychiatric help

    Windscreen frame

Classic I guess judging from the pic. That's scary, I wonder what mine is like after 36 years? Guess I'd find out if ever I need a new 'screen. Sorry I can't help with a supplier, though there is (generally) a healthier source of Classic replacement body parts out there these days. Hope you...

    P38A Insurance prices getting silly

I'll stick to my Classic, though having said that it locked me out earlier this year when the driver's door catch decided to disintegrate (after 36 years) What a game the Indie had, door wouldn't open (even when un-locked) from outside or in, how do you get a door card off when the door is...

    L322 not starting

Agreed. Just out of interest did you get that voltage reading shortly after charging the battery or an hour or so later, as a freshly charged battery needs to 'settle' for at least an hour before you (can) take an accurate reading. Either way, as Data says 12.4 isn't good from a charged...

Classic looking for technical advices as new in "Classic world"

Good advice to the OP Henry, but I must take issue with your assertion that the 3.5 efi is gutless. With a lineage dating back to the 1960's the unit is not in the league of modern LR products, but with only 170 bhp (when new) you can't expect anything else .. however a good one is a torquey...

    Range Rover suspension

Land Rover products have invariably leaned one way or another, even back in the days of leaf springs & can do so with those new-fangled coils as well  That & corrosion are synonymous with the breed, the latter apparently has still to be eradicated.

    BG44

As a follow up to my posting early last month .. Added BG44 to around 60L of premium 95 fuel & my 3.5efi does seem to have more life in it, though being used as a second car I've covered less than 200m since, so it's early days. Hard to be certain though as shortly prior to 'dosing' the old...

Range Rover Diesels - Which is the most reliable?

Presumably when in private ownership (a less demanding environment) the M57 doesn't catch fire like the traffic cops response BM's can do/have done

    Towing Advice

Just to throw yet another spanner into the works o_O Any trailer (or anything classed as such) must have brakes on all wheels in contact with the road. I suspect that the reason that the plod usually turns a blind eye to the various 'towing' offences being committed is because they don't really...

Advice needed Evoque P300e cracked hybrid battery casing

Especially as these batteries have a reputation for spontaneously combusting, especially if damaged  Note: I post this reply purely out of concern for the OP's safety, it is not my intention to start a discussion on the subject.

    P38A Loud engine/fan when cold

Don't want to be contentious but I've always found viscous fans reliable in various cars inc. my '79 2.6 safari & four RRC's. I had to replace such a unit in my old 5 series BM last year as it wasn't locking up properly during the exceptionally hot summer, but the 'leckey aux. fan kept the car...
