What have you done to your Freelander today

Treated mine to a cover for the tailgate tyre and a new leather sewn on steering wheel cover. Very posh if I say so myself…..!

    Freelander 1 Another VCU Fred.

Update. Back home, tyres changed, now at least I’ve got 5 matching on board. I managed to offset the cost of them by selling the ‘old’ 5 - the tailgate one was brand new complete with the coloured lines, the rear axles has 6mm on, the fronts about 5. All were dated 2021. As I don’t get any...

    Freelander 1 Another VCU Fred.

Thanks to all for your contributions. Still away in the Highlands so will update more as and when. But it’ll be new tyres all round first then sort out the VCU with Bell Eng. BTW, as it’s quite a trek from near York down to them, is changing it , bearings, diff bearings etc a job for any adept...

    Freelander 1 Another VCU Fred.

Hi All, As per my signature below my FL1 has now done 150k, and has no previous service history. While in my ownership I’ve done: Fluid changes - engine oil, gearbox, IRD, in Nov 22. Diff in Feb this year. All filters - oil, pollen, PCV, air, and turbo breather I think it’s called. It’s a...

What have you done to your Freelander today

After having all the front re-bushed with new lower arms, they got Bilt Hambered to within an inch of its life. Unfortunately, one job done, three more show themselves. So it was off with the front bumper and underseal the front cross member. Would’ve been rude not to clean the undertray. Still...

    Knocking from underneath

So, update, Had the drop links, ARB bushes, and lower arms + bushes changed. Will it need the tracking done? Thanks to all who contributed. Cheers, M.

    Knocking from underneath

Thanks Nodge. While I’m at it I think I’ll do the ARB and replace the lower arms and relevant bushes. It’s gotta get us up the west coast of Scotland in April. It’ll be the longest trip I’ve done in it. Cheers, M.

    Knocking from underneath

Update: Andy you were correct, the OS drop link top bush is the culprit. Given that I’ve only done 3.5k miles since purchasing in October 21 would the heavy duty DL’s be worth the extra? Regards, Michael.

    Knocking from underneath

Hi All, Over the last couple of months I’ve noticed a knocking noise from ( I think) the NSF area. It sounds like a bush or bushes as it makes its presence known when going over holes/ manhole covers etc. I’m having the diff oil changed next week so while it’s up in the air I’m going have a good...

    Freelander 1 Glow plug testing

What about putting the clamp on round one of the glow plug cables individually? Regarding the weather, mine is back to starting as normal so I’m thinking it was just the cold. Going to check the plug’s resistance though. Cheers, M.

    Freelander 1 Grippier tyres!!

Nodge, Can I put 225/60’s on my present rims that have 225/55’s on? Since the Geolandars aren’t available in 225/55/17. Cheers, M.

    Freelander 1 Grippier tyres!!

I’ve got a decent amount of tread left, at the moment. The post was part we’re going to the Scottish Highlands in April and I just like the look of chunkier tyres! They do look ok though. Cheers, Michael.

    Freelander 1 Glow plug testing

Thanks Nodge, I did consider making a shunt resistors to use with my meters. They’re good for 10A so I could give them a try. It’ll just show O/L if it’s higher than 10. But by the time you’ve bought wire thick enough and spent time calibrating it all, I think I’d rather buy one of the Auto...
