FL1 TD4 Auto - Transmission whine after cold start - SOLVED

The fluid check MUST be done with the engine running and the box suitably warmed up. Doing a level check with the engine off will result in an amount of the required fluid draining out.

FL1 TD4 Auto - Transmission whine after cold start - SOLVED

I have finally got to the bottom of this one. A combination of the garage that originally did the autobox change and actually underfilled the box, rather than over filling it, and me subsequently following the incorrect procedure for checking the fluid level resulted in the box being about 2lts...

    12 Fault Codes, £1500 Repair Bill - FL1 1.8 K-Series

All LRs are money pits, but that's part of the joy of the owner experince. I would follow the advice of others though and get the codes cleared and see what comes back. If you sort the mechanical bits you've mentioned and the car is performing fine, I wouldn't worry too much about the codes just...

    Freelander Spot Lights

Just to confuse the matter further, LR did do a fog lamp kit in the pod style too, for facelifts that didn't have the factory in-bumber ones.

They come as a kit like this. They occasionally come up on ebay and Muddy Mods used to have some I believe.

Check the multitude of threads on here about VCUs. The prop will have been removed to either prevent damage to the transmission, or because damage has already been done to the transmission.

I think you've done alright there. I paid about £1k for four new injectors about ten years ago!

What have you done to your Freelander today

I have a similar tale of a near miss from a snapping cable. This one could have been horrendous. I was an apprentice in a boat yard that built fishing boats and yachts. We'd just completed a 33ft fast fishing boat and it had been wheeled out of the shed and was being craned onto a low loader to...

    Freelander for sale

Is that the black 2006 one in Looe? If so it looks great for the age and mileage. The interior looks nowhere near like a 165k car. I'd be the same though. It has to be 2005 or older because of the tax.

FL1 TD4 Auto - Transmission whine after cold start - SOLVED

This afternoon a great Sage assisted me with this ongoing auto box issue. My suspiscions were that fluid levels may be playing a part in the whine that is occuring. We discovered that the box was overfilled by approx 1L. Hurrah I thought. All will be well! Sadly though, after the level was...

FL1 TD4 Auto - Transmission whine after cold start - SOLVED

A few days driving has revealed that without the prop fitted, the whine is still present. Same symptoms as before the prop removal - it only occurs after the car has stood over night (but not everytime) - and only lasts for a short while. It sometimes takes a minute or two before it occurs, and...

Just looking at how "modular" the build is in places, did you condsider using multi plugs/connectors so you could easily remove a box with the components in for repair etc?

What have you done to your Freelander today

So I've managed to source a replacement which will be arriving tomorrow. I will need to inspect it upon arrival but if it's okay I will be getting it shot blasted, and depending on the price I may get it thermal metal sprayed. There are a couple of firms local to me that do it. If that's too...
