Defender Wolf as a first Defender project?

Depends what you want. There is nothing wrong with a Wolf. But generally they are basic spec and may well lack things you’d perhaps want. I haven’t checked prices recently, but in the past they have been expensive. I accept that they are likely to retain this premium when you come to sell. But...

Defender Wolf as a first Defender project?

Generally a Wolf is an expensive way to get a poor road going Defender. Unless it is super cheap there are much better Defenders to buy.

    Rear shock

Have you bought the right ones? The cup on the axle changed at some point and the shocks are supplied slightly differently for the lower bush iirc. Have +2” Celluar Dynamics on my vehicle as does my brother and my Uncle has the regular length ones on his pickup. All fitted without issue.

    Newcastle mech recommendation?

TBH a Defender is about the most simple vehicle built in the past 50 years and is super super super easy to assess. If you can't manage it, you probably shouldn't be buying vehicles at all! :vb-poke-with-stick: :) Seriously, they are all nuts and bolts and easy to get at. They also have very...

    Salisbury laning weekday or weekend??

Many thanks and appreciate your knowledge share, I know you know this area well. :)

    Salisbury laning weekday or weekend??

Bit of everything really, don’t mind a bit of mud. I missed out on our annual Wales trip due to a knee injury. So we are looking at doing a 2 nighter beginning of October. We will be staying in a B&B between Andover and Tidworth. Heading down from Bedfordshire. Have Trailwise, off line OS...

    Salisbury laning weekday or weekend??

Any days to avoid for laning round Salisbury Plain? Was originally thinking of a Monday/Tuesday. But will there be lots of red flags flying and restricted access?

    Freelander 1 All Terrain Tyres

It’s worth understanding how the suspension and steering work. This will enable you to answer your own questions pretty much. A lift also may not really allow bigger tyres. Depends how you lift the vehicle (there are multiple ways). Our Freelander is 100% stock suspension wise and I’m running...

Steering pump belt skipping after steering box rebuilt

What engine and vehicle? Did you reuse the pulleys? Going through 3 boxes also seems highly unusual. What were you other failures? When you say skipping. Are you meaning belt squeal as it isn’t a toothed belt? Are you sure it is tight? On a Tdi you have multiple belts but they run from a...

    Centre front seat belt

I’d have to say that all rather sounds like nonsense tbh. Normal belts go tight the inertia bit in their name should they be needed and anything remotely modern has pre-tensions too which actively pull them even tighter. So a normal belt if working correctly will hold the body tight too. As...

    Semi-strange question - why L322 is a 'truck'?

L322 is unibody. And could be had with a supercharged V8 with 500+hp or a thumping 4.4 TDV8. Slow they ain’t. And even back in the day the 4.6 p38 wasn’t slow when you compared to period vehicles.

    Semi-strange question - why L322 is a 'truck'?

Car as an abbreviation of carriage would be perfectly correct tbh.

    Semi-strange question - why L322 is a 'truck'?

Defenders could easily meet your definition of “designed to carry freight”. Hard top and pick up variants. High Caps and then a host of tray back, box bed and other configs available.

    Semi-strange question - why L322 is a 'truck'?

Don’t think I’ve ever heard an L322 being called a truck tbh.

    Centre front seat belt

Why? Just use it as fitted. Older Land Rovers don’t even have seat belts. However, can see no reason why a harness wouldn’t be safe. And there must be loads of ways to fit a 3 point. But remember the belt should pull you back into the seat not down towards the seat base. Pulling down could...

Let's talk about bushes ( no sniggering please)

Do you mean the chassis end of the rear arms or are you looking for all of them? Tbh you’d want to replace the axle end and if the rears need doing is look at doing the fronts. Pushing the bushes out of the axle ends is hard. And you either need a press or you’ll have to get creative with a...
