Hi there. After struggling through the elements and replacing a goosed gearbox I have a living truck again. Only issue is there seems to have been an issue somewhere and the book symbol has appeared on the heater controls. My question/plea is there anyone in Preston who has a diagnostic tool...

She lives!!! Changes gear lovely and no more rattly noise. Just need to double check the oil level tomorrow ... oh and get it on a diagnostic as it seems to have developed an error. Book symbol has appeared on the heater controls.

Dodging gale force winds and horizontal rain, I managed to get it all back together today. Even had a couple of bolts left so I must of done something right. Those transfer boxes are heavy. Heavier than the main box. Had to lie under it and manually lift it into position. Anyways .. rapidly...

New to me gearbox and Torque Converter is in. Just the transfer box, propshafts, wiring, exhaust, oils and bits to go. Hoping the weather is acceptable tomorrow. Need this running again. You free wammers :D

Does anyone know where I can get a set of bell housing to engine bolts from? Missing one of the top ones and the set that bolt to the later extended sump to the bellhousing. I cannot post in the wanted section for some reason.

Verdict is in. The box is second hand. Which ever muppet installed it should be hung, drawn, and quartered. They didn't put the TC onto the gearbox properly and then slide the assembly onto the engine. They must of bolted the TC to the flex plate and then jammed on the gearbox drawing it in...

Well I have stripped the engine out of a 4.0 V6 Ford Explorer (the same Cologne V6 4.0 of the Disco 3) and replaced all the timing chains and tensioners with success. Even made my own engine locking kit to do the job. Might be able to do a front crank seal. Just wondered if it is a day job or...

Lets get it running first :D What are the front crank seals like on these. Pain in the arris, or fairly straight forward.

Green Oval noob here. I thought I had a Gems 4.6 V8 in my 1996 P38 RR HSE. However it seems I have a Thor sump. Top of my engine: Bottom of my engine: My question is. What are the other differences. Would be useful in case I need to get spares. Cheers

Yup .. I have to admit it gave me some hope. If there were chunky bits that you could chew on I would start pricing new (second hand) gearbox's :D

Took a photo of it. I didn't think it looked bad. Those spikes are actually made of tiny tiny particles all sticking together. No actual "splinters"

Will do. Oil is a little dark, but nothing I would be concerned about. Sump plug had some small tiny filings on. Both gearbox and transfer case oil are in good condition. So far everything is ok, but I haven't got into the bell housing yet.

I have the later sump apparently. The extended one with the two holes. I have poked, prodded, and rummaged. Tried even to see if there is any play in the TC. No play, and nothing visually untoward.

Hi wammers. Your the man to speak to apparently. :) I bit the bullet today. Only the bell housing bolts to go and the gearbox is off. Got slightly delayed fixing my other truck. I have a new flex plate. Turns out, it is just as cheap getting them from LR dealership. Hopefully I will drop it...

Does he drive a 2.5 P38 in light metallic blue?
