P38 Steering noise and excessive heat

Hey Wammers You might be right, and if you are...I will drop a post on with a picture of me sitting at the side of the road minus a wheel :D But there is no heat build up on the wheel or the hub/axle....wish it was...would be so simple! Dougie

P38 Steering noise and excessive heat

thanks guys for the input, and comments. I did mention in my original post that the car has been in the garage and the brakes, bearings, rubbers and bushes have all been checked, and they are fine. I also mentioned in an earlier post, albeit not the original that the noise is relative to...

P38 Steering noise and excessive heat

that was my initial thoughts, but it has been checked at my mates garage and its not that, or seemingly anything related to the mechanical turning of the wheel. Bearing in mind, the noise is only generated when the steering is off centre, and my experience is that a bearing will grind...

P38 Steering noise and excessive heat

Hi Wammers The noise is not present when the car is stationary and the steering wheel turned. It does however quicken in line with the car's speed, so if I am going through a long bend on a road at 40, the noise is repeated quicker than I would experience going through the same bend at 30...

P38 Steering noise and excessive heat

Hi Folks, Managed to get a look today. 1) Power Steering Pump - Assuming that this is the aluminium block that the reservoir sits on, then no, its not any hotter than I would expect sitting close to the exhaust manifold. 2) Belt Tensioner seems to be rotating fine, all front pulleys...

P38 Steering noise and excessive heat

Hi Folks, got a little puzzler. A small inconsistent whurr, whurr, whurr noise when on hard lock has turned into a consistent whurr, whurr, whurr noise at any time the steering is not pointing straight. There is now a "smell" of heat after using the car for any more that a short run...

    Mystery Oil Leak

Hi Folks In my earlier posts, a mere three days after I bought it, my camshaft decided to retire, and for almost a month (albeit over christmas) it went into a landrover specialist to be repaired. Camshaft was done, engine runs lovely and the purr of the V8 is superb! However, it...

Air blowback through to Air Filter Box

Hi Dove It's not really the parts, I think it is the labour @ 50 per hour. Apparently the cam has to come out through the front, so the front end and radiator has to come out first. Had to go sometime given the mileage, so at least I know it's good for a while :)

Air blowback through to Air Filter Box

All, took the rr down to Gibsons in Ayrshire. Turns. Out the camshaft has gone, getting it replaced. Been quoted £900...sound reasonable?

    Good independent...Glasgowish?

Thanks Kato...probably could, only concern is whether I might do more damage being on the M8 for 35 miles. Might have to risk it!

    Good independent...Glasgowish?

Hi Folks Only had my P38 a week and it's having to go to the hospital. Had some great help on the forums, but I haven't got the time to do he work so will have to get someone else to do it for me. I'm in Airdrie, just outside Glasgow and would welcome any recommendations for local...

Air blowback through to Air Filter Box

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNz1tCk6vSg&feature=youtube_gdata_player Another vid! Dont have the right socket to get the rocker cover off, and heading down south for the rest of the week. Could anyone recommend a good independent around the Lanarkshire or glasgow area?

Air blowback through to Air Filter Box

Thanks for all the replies. 1) the car starts and idles ok..sitting about 750rpm 2) there is a serious lack of "pick up" when the accelerator is pushed, and the noise you hear on the vid is what I get until the gear shifts down 3) when the car is cruising and I'm just keeping the momentum up...

Data, sorry, hadn't realised you had answered. Tried to upload the link onto the previous thread but couldn't, hence the new one. If one of the mods can join them , that would be good. Would any of the suggestions you have made be gradual, or instantaneous ? Cheers

Air blowback through to Air Filter Box

P38 Blowback - YouTube Hi, hope someone can help. Started getting a really harsh rasping, thought it might have been the transfer chain....after a little work, found the noise was coming through the air filter. My wife who was in the car before the noise started recalls we took a...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Thanks Steve, it was just replaced, and when I unplugged it, the car almost stalled. Tried running it without the MAF connected, made no difference unfortunately.

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Spent most of the day trying to work out where the fecking noise that suddenly started last night was coming from, and what was causing it. It's coming from the air box, no issues when in neutral, but in gear sounds like a machine gun and lack of power. Hoping that I will get a few solutions...
