    Rear diff bearings

Ahh, hopefully good news then, will get finger out and get bearings, then try and find a garage with engineering ability rather than just fitters. Can you get shim packs in case any additional shims are required when reassembling?

    Rear diff bearings

Yeah, thanks, I was hoping you wouldn't say that but kinda knew you would. To be on the safe side I reckon I'll get a garage to do it if I can give them the diff on the bench. How likely is it that the crownwheel and pinion will have escaped damage..........the whine is still a whine, not...

    Rear diff bearings

Hi, Can I replace the rear diff bearings on my p38 and reuse the shims on the crownwheel bearings where they came out of? Are there shims on the pinion bearings? Ta

    P38 eas valve block

Well, by way of a conclusion and feedback to all who helped, thats the valve block fitted with new o rings and diaphragm which was cracked around the metal insert although deceivingly, the crack couldn't be seen till the diaphragm was removed. The link in the thread above by NicP38 is great and...

Thats great guys, Thanks to all for your knowledge and patience. O ring and diaphragm kit ordered

    P38 eas valve block

Yep, got it though mines actually black - maybe aftermarket? but anyway, when I unscrewed it and put finger over hole, I'm getting the same pressure pushing out as I was feeling coming out of the output side of the compressor so diaphragm would appear to be leaking. I take it the diaphragm is...

    P38 eas valve block

I had absolutely no idea the thing existed. I'll check it tomorrow with the other stuff on my list. Thanks, I'll update the post with progress.

    P38 eas valve block

The only air filter I know of on the compressor is the fwd facing one on the end of the pump and if I remove that and put finger over the hole it is drawing air in and sucking my finger onto the hole which I would expect. Can you advise if there is another filter. I'll pull the pump tomorrow and...

    P38 eas valve block

Thanks for that Wammers. When the system is holding air when the car isn't being used it would tend (to me) to indicate the air is being lost prior to the outlet ports of the valve block and with the pump been going ten to the dozen for so long I'll refurb the seals in them both and, like you...

    P38 eas valve block

Lubrication (or not) thing received and understood. Regarding the possible corner height sensor issue, are the sometimes ambiguous error messages accurate enough with their indication of which corner the problem is located at ie RR?

    P38 eas valve block

Thanks datatek, airbags are all sub-10000 miles old, I did them and the compressor seal last year. When the system was working ok it was holding air well ie not dropping right down overnight etc so I'm liking the idea of overhauling the valve block seals and diaphragm. While I have the...

    P38 eas valve block

Hi, after taking a trip to eas hell last winter with my 97 P38, the old girl performed faultlessly all year including a 2000 mile trip from Dunfermline to Paris and back. Any way last week it showed a hard eas fault which I ran the software on and reset the system. The fault displayed was "RR...

    2.5 diesel

I have a '97 2.5 DSE with a manual box which I have owned for just over a year. I have to admit that the straight 6 motor is a little underpowered and when towing you have to be prepared to put up with frequent gear changes. That said, it will still romp enthusiatically and smoothly up to...

    P38 rear shock bushes

Can anyone recommend where I can get hold of an upper bush and bolt for the rear shock on a P38. There seems to be no end of lower ones or upper and lower kits for classics but it seems like my only option is replacing the shock which isn't expensive but seems a shame when the shock looks and...

P38 manual gearbox and transfer box fluids

P38 manual gearbox and transfer box fluids

Lol!! You're a bit late to stop me getting fat......by a few years. I like the sound of the mtf94 though. Will I stick with the dexron III in the transfer box? I've only had the P38 a year so am still getting to grips with terms and abbreviations, I take it that the r380 is the standard...

P38 manual gearbox and transfer box fluids

I've searched for an answer to this but can't find what I'm after so I'd be real grateful if anyone can advise me what I should be filling the gearbox and transfer boxes with. I recently put Dexron III in both but the handbook says Dexron IId. Is there any difference in performance/viscosity...

thats great, thanks but at the risk of sounding really thick can I use Dextron 2/3 in both the gear and transfer boxes?
