What have you done to your Freelander today

I'm making progress with my KV6 project. :) The new head is on, new water pump, timing belt idler pulley, exhaust manifold is back on, Timing gears and rear belt are on. The goal tomorrow is to finish the belts and carry on with putting the pile of parts on the bench back onto the engine. One...

Very true! I've got a big bench but it still wasn't big enough. Hopefully it will be empty by the end of the week.

What have you done to your Freelander today

It's been a busy day! I took a large portion of the KV6 apart to replace the L/H cylinder head in an effort to get rid of a persistent tappety noise. Swapping the head complete is a bit of overkill but the new head was very cheap. Pulling the engine apart I found some other possible causes of...

Seems you have them trained. I generally get stuff I don't need as gifts. Well done!

    very stupid question....

Made me look! I have the same problem. It's the turn signal blinkers that drive me crazy as I can't see them so I'm always driving around with them on. :(

Replaced the window lift mechanism in the left rear door today. The job was a breeze. The hardest part was undoing the electric plugs on the door card (Why does every plug come apart in a different way, usually needing ninja monkey fingers to undo?) I also replaced the plastic door seal sheet...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Well, At least you can say my Freelander is consistent. I popped over the US border this evening to pick up an order of Ravenol motor oil for the Hippo. At the booth the border guard asked me to roll down the rear window (Probably watching for Mexicans trying to sneak in) The window went down...

What have you done to your Freelander today

I did a drain and fill on my auto gearbox this weekend. It took about 3.7L of Ravenol JF506E ATF and is running much smoother.

The head was (comparatively) very cheap. I have previously tried changing lifters, Which wasn't a fun job. That is what prompted me to just replace the head as there will be no messing around with the cam cradle etc. The head is ready to go so it should just be old head off, new head on. I'm...

UPS came by with a big box today. This is almost too nice to install! :)

    First of the annoying questions....

Just don't mix different types of coolant. If it has the green glycol stuff use that. If it has the pink OAT stuff use that.

It's not the VIS valves. I've replaced them with uprated ones by Stocktake off the 75/ZT forum and have had the intake apart to make sure the valves are all OK. Using a stethoscope it sounds like the noise is coming from #2 or the #4 portion of the head. I'm hoping that the new head will cure it.

Feeling happy and relieved today. It has been 170km since I changed the thermostat and the rad hoses on the V6. When I got home today I pulled the engine cover and found the vee of the engine bone dry. :D I hope the next project ends as well. Yesterday I ordered a new L/H cylinder head an oil...

Not if they are as flat as the old ones were! I used Castrol rubber grease on the new ones. My fingers are also firmly crossed!

What have you done to your Freelander today

I just finished a week long odyssey of changing the Thermostat on my V6. I started last Saturday and tried to do the keyhole technique but the housing wouldn't budge so off came the intake manifolds. Good thing I had a couple of intake gaskets on hand. I put everything back together but it turns...

If there are O-rings on the hoses make sure they are in good condition, other than that I would not use any sealants as any sealant that gets into the system could cause problems. If there are leaks the tech can sort them out when he refills the system. Being in Canada I know what you mean about...

The compressor? I've had mine off my V6 and it was straightforward but involved removing the engine mount and aux. belt which is time consuming, but the system should be evacuated and recharged by an A/C specialist to avoid environmental issues. It will need the specialist to recharge it regardless

    VCU Torque test results

The bike I saw just used a Dewalt drill in a mount attached to the rear wheel so it wasn't a very efficient system. I can't see a standard drill battery having a long lifespan driving a 150+lb man on a bike.

    VCU Torque test results

I've seen the video. The bike goes well but I think the range would only be a few hundred metres. It would be a fun project devising a way to get the fluid out more efficiently. Luckily I don't have a spare VCU. I've got enough going on, this weekend is changing my Freelander thermostat, intake...
