    Dom's 88" rechassis

Bravo! Lovely truck - and well-loved as a Landy should be. 10 for 10 on that job. Alan

Series 3 My SWB series 3 HELP PLAEASE!

Sorry, no. Quoted manual top speed of a petrol-powered Series truck is 70 MPH. That is the flat-out speed - and not good for the engine or the truck. I drove my109 (Series IIA, 1964, petrol 2286) to work this morning at 60 or so with no problems out of overdrive and 65 in OD with plenty of...

    ignition wont turn off

Did you shove in the stop push? Diesels only use electrickery to start on the 2.25 as opposed to the 2.5 et al. To start you need to pull out the engine stop knob, and then shove it back in to stop the engine. This actuates the fuel cutoff valve on the CAV DPA pump. In short, all you need...

Series 2 Miss at high speed 2.25 petrol:

Not unhelpful and likely what I'll do. At present it;s getting me where I need to go, which is good because its Diesel younger cousin is apart (again). Right now I need the car, so testing is going to have to take a back seat.

2.5D leaking at head gasket area:

Yet another chapter in the unending saga of my 110/2.5D engine swap... Got the engine back together after replacing a piston with a broken ring. All set, oil in, water in...what's that noise? Water running in volumes from the join between head and block at the back right. :( BUGGER...

    vilgurl and her 90

Bravo - you have a keeper there. SWMBO won;t even ride in my Rovers except in emergencies. :( Re: Acid in the wash water for pressure washing: Do tell - never heard of this. How does one go about it? Alan

    little end bushes/bearings

That pin needs to rotate in the bushing, so an interference fit like that is NOT going to be a good idea. Do these need to be reamed once installed? If so then i'd fit the 4 bushings and then take them to the nearest auto machine shop to get them properly sized. Actually, i'd dig out a reamer...

    Changing a 110 front end to a series 3.

Re: Radiator supports: If you went to the Series III radiator as well iit woould bolt to the front panel - so all you'd need to worry about is the bottom mount of the panel to the chassis crossmember or a fabricated brace. No idea on the bonnet width...wish I could help on that...

Series 2 Miss at high speed 2.25 petrol:

Sometimes you just have to shotgun a problem...it's easier. I did a full tune-up on the 109 last evening - cap (worn) rotor (ditto) wires (over a decade old) and sparkplugs (not bad at all but swapped anyway). While I was at it I swapped the coil - figured it was worth it just to see and I...

Series 2 Miss at high speed 2.25 petrol:

No, well understoood - i was just taking the p***. It is no Ferrari indeed - but i would trust it to go anywhere and do anything...which is more than I can say for Italian "engineering". :) ajr

Series 2 Miss at high speed 2.25 petrol:

Re: I said coil: Wasn't directed to you... :) I agree, it could well be the coil and I have a spare i will try if the tune-up and leads don't do it.

Series 2 Miss at high speed 2.25 petrol:

Speak for yourself, mate - it happily gets down the motorway at 65-70 all day. Take THAT, jeep CJ5s! :) I have to say on that point - most people who've complained that "X engine is a dog" in Land-Rovers have never had a good one. There are exceptions, the K-series in the Freeloader and the...

Series 2 Miss at high speed 2.25 petrol:

The whole works is over a decade old and has done many, many thousands of miles - none of it is anywhere new barring cap and rotor and plugs replacements over time (none recently). Thanks for the suggestions re:condenser and the like but it ain' got one... :) I'm just going to give the old sod...

Series 2 Miss at high speed 2.25 petrol:

Bite Your Tongue! :) Honestly, I don't think that's the case here. The skip is not consistent to one cylinder, which is what makes me suspicious of the cabling as a first question. Leads on this car are over a decade old and likely getting elderly in any case. A set of plugs prob'ly wouldn't...

Series 2 Miss at high speed 2.25 petrol:

My yard is starting to look like BL in the 60s...lots of annoying Land-Rovers. My 1964 Series IIA 109 is acting up was running perfectly and has suddenly developed a high-speed miss. Once the truck warms for 5-10 minutes, pushing the revs results in a miss/stumbling. When it first happened I...

    emissions and solonoids

Is this the solenoid that shuts down the idle circuit on power-off to prevent dieseling? No, this will not cause high emissions. Were I you I'd have taken a more systematic look at the problem. TBH this could simply have been an adjustment - if this was at idle Id've checked the mixture setting...

Steering box leak - and cracking!!

No. Steering is quite different between a Series and a 90/110. Were it me I'd have the steering box out and strip it on the bench. they're not all that hard to overhaul - just did one for my Series I 86. You could always sort one from a scrappie and reseal/rebuild that, then swap it in if you...

    Next summers project sorted.

VERY nice. I own the early 60s equivalent of that - more of a box on wheels but minimaliist and very functional. I bought it as a complete wreck and rebuilt the structure and all of the internal furnishings - a very satisfying project. http://www.richer-engineering.com/Overlander/index.php is...

Series 3 Rear Axle - what have I got?

If you have all the bolts out and there are no signs of welding I'd put a chuunk of PVC pipe over the stub axle and thump it with a mallet or some other heavy lump of metal. Likely the stub is securely dirt-fastened via its spigot to the axle and just needs shocking loose. Don't pry at it -...

Series 3 A bit of advice please.

Could be worse. i'd have been all over the chassis with a screwdriver personally but if you're willing to accept the fact that the chassis may be past its prime then I'd offer him a nice round 1000 and go with it.
