    Troubles With My new ride

Check front and rear tyre, make, model, sizes and wear are the same, mismatched sized front and rear wheels cause vcu to heat up and tighten and can cause these symptoms. Front drive shaft can also cause this too
  4. austen

    only 2 wheel drive.

Never seen a vcu fail like this, apart from badly "recon" ones. You need to see if front part of prop is spinning, if so dodgy vcu, if not then its the ird unit.

2.0 xedi 2wd converted.. into 2nd and felt something go.. now no drive at all

Check driveshaft hasn't popped out. If not more than likely the diff in the gearbox, splines shear off it sending drive to rear wheels only. Less likely but possible are the 2 small gears you can see through the fill plug of the ird, these brake up, usually when other bits of ird are floating...

No drive after propshaft removal ?

Your IRD maybe fine, take fill plug out and look at the gears through that hole. How much does the out put shaft turn?

    Rear differential problems

We are about to start reconditioning rear differentials for Freelander 2 models. However before we commencing selling these we really want to look into the reason why they are failing. If anyone who has experienced this problem first hand and could spare the time to speak to us we would be...

    Freelander 2 rear diff problems

We have just got our first batch of F2 rear diffs and a haldex unit in to try and figure out the real cause and a solution for all these failures. We will keep you up to date

    Freelander 1 Final drive ratio

The rear diff ratio's are all the same from all years and all models, the only differenmce is from around 2000-01 the rear diffs had larger bearings fitted to the carrier. This was done due to diff failures which were infact caused by VCU and tyre issues, so infact was completely pointless. Most...

Wobble At Most Speeds - Prop Removed

That really does sound like a driveshaft, only doing it when underload. As you say its worse on RH bends i'll have a guess its the inner O/S, but dont hold me to that ;)

Wobble At Most Speeds - Prop Removed

Its just a well known cause of wobble/vibration. Sometimes you can wobble the joint up and down, but not always. The one we changed felt ok when fitted, but when we took it apart all the needles had drop out one of the balls on the CV joint. Try pulling all 4 up and down (inner and outer), see...

Wobble At Most Speeds - Prop Removed

I'd put money on it being one of the drive shaft CV joints. Just replaced an offside one on a freelander with similiar symptoms, now drives perfect.

    WARNING: FREELANDER SPARES VCU's

The one we just had in was stiff enough to do this, but when we jacked both front wheels up and put it in drive the VCU just span round. So its worth a check, but obviously be careful you dont drive of the jack!!!

No drive after propshaft removal ?

Chaser and Freelaner are correct this will be the problem. The only other slight chance is that the small gears in the IRD that you can see through the refill plug have stripped. I have only ever seen this once where the IRD casing hasnt cracked open or all drive to all wheels is lost. I was...
