Freelander 1 V6 HeadGasket - what tests to run

Thanks Joe_H for pointing that out. I don't know and was speculating that air could be coming into the system and that might have raise the pressure, but it seems both you and Nodge68 say this cannot happen. Good thing I have a head gasket kit on order...

Hi Rich, do you have that picture handy?

Freelander 1 V6 HeadGasket - what tests to run

Looking more closely I saw a "small water puddle" near the thermostat in the V of the engine, no idea how old it is. I am wondering how I could test for leaks in the straight pipe at the pump or thermostat as this might fit my situation. I am thinking that because when I came back from...

Freelander 1 V6 HeadGasket - what tests to run

Thanks! You indeed confirmed what I experienced. I was not quite at TDC. The leakdown tester with 90ish psi of air applied did not show any bubbles in the coolant expansion tank. Another test I ran is I tested the cooling system at 22 psi, no leaks. Pictures of air gauge for leakdown...

Freelander 1 V6 HeadGasket - what tests to run

@Nodge68 I am trying to do a leakdown test. I first removed the gasoline pump relay and then removed the side cover to get access at the crankshaft pulley. I then removed the spark plug of cylinder 3. I found TDC using a piece of a metal cloth hanger and I found the compression stroke using a...

Freelander 1 V6 HeadGasket - what tests to run

Wow thanks to you both for spending lots of time on this issue. @Nodge68 to test your idea of air coming in via the Thermostat piping, at what PSI do you think I should test the cooling system cold and not running ? Kaiser on another forum suggested going up to 32 psi. @Joe_H I did try to...

    Changing 2,5 l V6 engine Needs advice

Hi Ole Just a quick FYI, there is a guy in Norway (sorry no idea how far he lives from you) that has a lot of K series and KV6 experience. His name is Einar (his online nick is beinet1) and he lives in Sandnes - Norway (all this is public info he has on his profile on the other forum.) Two...

Freelander 1 V6 HeadGasket - what tests to run

If I drive 20 minutes, I have to add coolant after it cools down. The coolant level is always low after a drive longer than 10 minutes. I just bought an air compressor and I have a leakdown tester on order, so I should be able next weekend to get some air in that cylinder and see.

Freelander 1 V6 HeadGasket - what tests to run

Well today I did a few tests with the expansion tank cap removed. I drove two trips of 20 minutes, let the car cool a few minutes and then removed the expansion tank cap. If I let the car idle after that trip and without the cap, the coolant level keeps rising and rising until it over flows...

Freelander 1 V6 HeadGasket - what tests to run

I watched pressure building up to 19 PSI already (I have a pressure tester attached to the expansion tank) What is a safe level to keep testing at? Keep in mind my cap vents at 16 PSI, so with 19 PSI, it would vent already.

Freelander 1 V6 HeadGasket - what tests to run

I will try to look for bubbles next. To confirm my understanding of a leakdown test, if I put a leakdown tester on the cylinder and I put a pressure tester on the expansion tank, if the pressure goes up on the expansion tank, it is leaking through the coolant, and this test will confirm I don't...

Freelander 1 V6 HeadGasket - what tests to run

Hi all I have a 2002 V6 Freelander that I am very convinced the head gasket on the head of cylinder 1,3,5 has gone. I loose roughly 250 ml of coolant every 50ish km. The thermostat has been changed to Kaiser's excellent aluminium one. I pressure tested the expansion bottle cap, it does let...

Freelander 1 Door handle and actuator pics

Thanks to the video by Jasco I was able to change my driver door handle and actuator of my driver door. It was a lot of fiddling and blind bolt but nothing too hard. Took me roughly 4 hours as I was taking my time and had never done this before. Here are some pics to go with the video. I hope...

    Freelander 1 Heeeeelp! Overheating

I have the same over pressuring problem on my V6 and now the coolant loss is more and more (I had a thermostat go and I did not notice it and changed it fast enough) There was a few reports on Rover 75 with the same KV6 engine that used Steel Seal and 1.8 user using wondarweld. al those...

    Freelander 2 (LR2) Freelander 2 KV6, throttle actuation

Well if you need some hand on info, I have a NAS Freelander 1 KV6 which uses the MS43 (and it is a drive by wire) and the NAS version of the V6 Freelander uses a MAF not a MAP. (For those that want to look it up, the part number is MHK100620 )

Freelander 1 i need your help very urgent

I agree, being in Canada where there is not a lot of knowledge on the KV6, I can attest to it is best to get the tools if you go to an independent. Check eBay for KV6 tools. If you check this auction, there is a set for sale for around US$104 plus shipping which is VERY affordable...

Freelander 1 How easy is it to repower a V6 with an L Series?

I know New Zealand is not Canada but $1000 looks like a pretty descent price. It could be as simple as a failed thermostat or radiator fan. Test for combustion gas, compression test, that will give you a good idea. The good news about a facelift V6 is that the Jatco JF506 will have the...

    V6 Thermostat

I use the Kaiser alloy metal thermostat in my wife's Freelander here in Canada. As Nodge68 stated, the quick connect hose connections had to be removed. I like not having to worry about yet more plastic breaking.

    Freelander 1 V6 Engine Replacement

What I had to do was to unplug the hose from the other end, and rotate the hose on the thermostat connector. I also used a Radiator Hose Pick.
