    Clutch woes

On the L series yes, the TD4 can be disassembled. Trouble is the slave cylinder is on the back of the release bearing so its a gearbox out job I'm afraid.

    Clonk ? Mounting

Also, well known clonker candidate is the rear diff mounts wearing. Cheap and easy to do, well if you do the job yerself that is.

Wifes 2004 TD4 has lost power

I'm putting my cash on a fuel pump problem. At the end of the day the principle is simple, the more fuel you throw in the pot, the more power is developed. You have tried the obvious things and all is suggesting the ECU is demanding high injection volume but is not getting it. Both the High...

Woo woo noise from rear of Freelander

You chaps are on form today!!! :D Right, your noise is more than likely from the back axle. List includes: Rear differential Wheel bearings CV joints There is a possibility it is a VCU bearing on the main propshaft. If you are not handy with the toolbox then I recommend you get...

    Darmain's central locking misery

I didn't bother getting all twisted round the window slide to find out if I could get the lock out with it still in place. I lowered the window an inch so I could access the glass clamp release bolt, undid that, then completely removed the two bolts holding the slide to the door frame, then...

    Darmain's central locking misery

Finally got round to fitting the two new locks to the Drivers side of the car. Drivers door lock was fun. Got to take half the window reg out to get to it. Then you've got to lower the lock mechanism to get through to the exterior handle assembly retaining bolts, which has to be removed to...

    Oil Leak L series

You sound very local to me Tannebri!!! Drivers side of the L series has the oil filter and oil cooler feeds. Possible candidates. In additon a leak higher up can drop oil down, confusing the source location. My L series leaks a little oil from the rocker cover. Not much but makes a right...

    freelander 1.8 issue screeching tyres

35 pound sounds high. Try knocking that own to 30. That might improves things. The high pressure is going to resist the thread shuffling on corners.

    Door switch fault

Right, back again with the lock. As I suspected, the switch is quite visible but is very much integrated into the lock. To get to it, so to service it, would require total disassembly of the lock. Given this thing is capable of locking your door shut forever then care is definately called...

    Door switch fault

You called? :D I regret to say that the door lock switch is an integral part of the lock assembly. Hang on a jiff, as I have just bought a new lock for the drivers door, I'll go and get it out of the box. Bear in mind this is for a 2000 series 1 Freelander. I believe that this is also used...

    Wayfarer North Wales CLOSED

Don't know to be honest, but as a wrist slapping was issued I assume that a TRO is in effect. I also assume there is a permenant version. Let's hope it hasn't come to that. :(

Died a noisy and SMELLY death!

The front diff has everything to do with the IRD as the IRD contains the front diff, the reduction gear and the pinion gear that turns the transverse drive chain through 90 degrees to drive the central prop shaft. The general feeling seems to be that if the IRD is damaged then you can take the...

    Wayfarer North Wales CLOSED

Just got a general 'slap wrists' on another forum. Some laners have been on this route recently and it is still under a TRO. Not good practice whoever that was. May not have been anyone on here though.

    Freelander power problems.

Further to that, according to Hanyes, the 1.8 does indeed have what is refered to as an Evaporative emissions control system along the lines I described above. Therefore the hissing is perfectly normal.

    Freelander power problems.

I may be wrong in the case of the 1.8 Freebee, but on a lot of cars there is a system that purge petrol fumes from the tank, storing them in a carbon filter and then when the engine is in a certain running condition it lets the fumes flow into the inlet manifold so that they are burnt. As a...
