Well I was warned but didn't listen. My landy started to misfire ever so slightly for about 15miles then the temp guage took off to top.
I stopped it right away and need to add 1litre of water. I then got it home(10 miles) just before gauge started to rise again.
Is this looking like an inlet manifold gasket or complete HG failure?
If HG should I just replace gasket or get head skimmed too?

cheers

2001 1.8 - fix it and get shot - trade it for a doozil.

repeat HGF is too common to play about with.

Personally i always have cylinder heads skimmed when doing a head gasket, best way to make sure its flat and clean of any corrosion especially as it has been over heated, but that is my own personal view :D

I also always use the multy layer steal gaskets and metal dowels, never had one blow again afterwards.

Not entirely convinced with the MLS myself, had one in for 30k miles, the head came off to replace a valve, MLS had all its 5 layers separated and slight de-lamination around the outer edges of the block/head. There was no hgf, but oil weepage esp on the exhaust side.

went for the standard OE gasket with red elastomeric compound at just £13;)

get the pressure tests done, but could just be the inlet manifold into cylinder 1...........get her checked out

Tried an inlet gasket to no avail. Had head off tonight and gasket was knackered. New gasket here so i'll get head off to test and skim tomorrow and hopefully back for weekend. Car had metal dowels so take it its not first time!!!

I hope so as the car is very clean and passed MOT without even an advisory. Luckily a friend has sourced a supposed good ready skimmed head for very little. If it turns out good it will be fixed next week. :)
