surely with a viscous coupling the centre diff only sends power to both ends when one of the axles starts to slip? presumably its 2wd until something starts to slip, guessing rear drive?

yeah that was mentioned earlier today, turns out the previous owner had removed the ABS light, presumably to disguise the failed ABS system for MOT puposes. thanks anyway though

ah thats very kind, the fault codes i got were swiped from another forum, guess they aer for a disco or some such. the procedure for clearing fault codes is just to remove the bridge wire, then repeat the process to get the next code isnt it? ive done that but it keeps just giving me the 2-6...

brake pedal position switch apparently... i tried disconnecting the jumper wire so that it would display the next fault code, but it kept returning the same 2-6 code =/

right, after bridging the black and black/pink wires on the blue plug i switched the ignition on and the ABS light stayed on for 5 seconds, then when out, and then cycled through the following: 1 long, 1 short, 2 short, 6 short i tried switching the ignition off and on and it did the same...

turns out the previous owner had removed the ABS warning light bulb... this possibly doesnt look good, maybe the previous owner was having these issues and just took the bulb out.. i'll have another go at the blink test now that i know which one the ABS light actually is

sorry about all the questions, i know it can be soul destroying trying to help rookies with things that are second nature to someone who knows what they're doing. bear with me, i'll go poke things under the bonnet and try what you've suggested. i thank you for your patience :P

oh and forgot to add ive checked all the relays and they are all nice and clean with a good dose of grease on them, so i dont think the problem is in those

is the ABS light not the same as the handbrake/system pressure light? i always assumed it was, as its the handbrake light that comes on and stays on for me, and i havnt seen any other brake related warning lights come on at all. what does the ABS light look like?

will go now and clean all the contacts i can find under the passenger seat. and the ABS pump is what hasnt been working and causing me issues. i know its meant to run for 10 - 20 seconds after switching on the ignition but its been intermittently cutting out

well i tried to do the blink test, but the brake light just came on and stayed on like it usually does instead of going out after 5 seconds and going into the blink cycle. also it seems the brakes have packed up again. help?
