Range Rover dead :( whats it worth?

the brakes are shot because the ABS pump is dead apparently. 750 is for parts and a days worth of labour (400 just for labour apparently) sadly i have no money and very very limited experience with welding, and apparently the rot is quite bad. I'm starting uni this week so wont have much (any)...

Range Rover dead :( whats it worth?

Well after the brakes gave up last winter, my '90 Vogue SE has been laid up and out of use. I took it to the the local garage and asked their landrover expert to look at it for me, and he came back with a quote of 750 to get the brakes done, but nearer 1400 to make it road worth again due to a...

1990 RRC 3.9 with buggered ABS; whats it worth, or can the ABS be removed?

i really do want to get it fixed and running again, but due to both my part time jobs being occasional at best these days (im a student most of the time) i simply do not have the money to do anything at all with it (even if the ptice is very good, it'll still be 3 figures im guessing..), and...

1990 RRC 3.9 with buggered ABS; whats it worth, or can the ABS be removed?

as per the title really, im struggling to justify keeping the old girl as its not in running condition, and i think the ABS issues are beyond my ability to sort out. thing is, i love these cars and really dont want to send it off to the jaws of the crusher even if it is worth a few of hundred as...

    4x4 Ratio split

surely with a viscous coupling the centre diff only sends power to both ends when one of the axles starts to slip? presumably its 2wd until something starts to slip, guessing rear drive?

    RRC brake failure

yeah that was mentioned earlier today, turns out the previous owner had removed the ABS light, presumably to disguise the failed ABS system for MOT puposes. thanks anyway though

    RRC brake failure

ah thats very kind, the fault codes i got were swiped from another forum, guess they aer for a disco or some such. the procedure for clearing fault codes is just to remove the bridge wire, then repeat the process to get the next code isnt it? ive done that but it keeps just giving me the 2-6...

    RRC brake failure

brake pedal position switch apparently... i tried disconnecting the jumper wire so that it would display the next fault code, but it kept returning the same 2-6 code =/

    RRC brake failure

right, after bridging the black and black/pink wires on the blue plug i switched the ignition on and the ABS light stayed on for 5 seconds, then when out, and then cycled through the following: 1 long, 1 short, 2 short, 6 short i tried switching the ignition off and on and it did the same...

    RRC brake failure

turns out the previous owner had removed the ABS warning light bulb... this possibly doesnt look good, maybe the previous owner was having these issues and just took the bulb out.. i'll have another go at the blink test now that i know which one the ABS light actually is

    RRC brake failure

sorry about all the questions, i know it can be soul destroying trying to help rookies with things that are second nature to someone who knows what they're doing. bear with me, i'll go poke things under the bonnet and try what you've suggested. i thank you for your patience :P

    RRC brake failure

oh and forgot to add ive checked all the relays and they are all nice and clean with a good dose of grease on them, so i dont think the problem is in those

    RRC brake failure

is the ABS light not the same as the handbrake/system pressure light? i always assumed it was, as its the handbrake light that comes on and stays on for me, and i havnt seen any other brake related warning lights come on at all. what does the ABS light look like?

    RRC brake failure

will go now and clean all the contacts i can find under the passenger seat. and the ABS pump is what hasnt been working and causing me issues. i know its meant to run for 10 - 20 seconds after switching on the ignition but its been intermittently cutting out

    RRC brake failure

well i tried to do the blink test, but the brake light just came on and stayed on like it usually does instead of going out after 5 seconds and going into the blink cycle. also it seems the brakes have packed up again. help?

    RRC brake failure

thats the problem though, because the warning light is on all the time i wont know if the pump loses pressure :( and im really strapped for cash at the moment, but im pretty sure ive got the chaps number from when you sent it me a while back mate.

brake pressure sensor on a RRC

no i never take chances when it comes to brakes or steering, but cant help but feel that running wires directly from the sensor would be a more reliable fix than relying on lucas' finest if it was fixed properly anyway.. but failing that, anyone who cares to can have a read through the thread i...

brake pressure sensor on a RRC

well thats why im not using it on the road like it is.. and this would just be a temporary fix to allow me to go anywhere in the current weather, just until i can get it sorted properly

brake pressure sensor on a RRC

having a few issues with the brakes on my RRC, and long story short my brake pump occasionaly cuts out, but because the warning light is already on due to a different fault in the ABS system, i wouldnt have any warning that the brakes have lost pressure. so i was thinking i could just run a...

    RRC brake failure

well it turns out my reliable little french mobile isnt all that reliable. so now im left with my range rover with dodgy brakes, but im still no closer to being able to sort the braking issues. is there any way to bypass or remove the ABS system so its not making the dash light stay on...
