Here is my knackered bearing and almost certainly knackered CV joint

Thanks James. I'll get a video of it later on, it doesn't seem right to me. But then, over the last few weeks, I've learnt that a lot of things that I think are weird are perfectly normal!

Update! Props off. Didn't bother with the 90* rotation, because it was blatantly obvious that the bearing on the fore end on the VCU was shot to pieces. It's only 3 weeks old. Also going to take my front prop to a specialist, as the front part (not sure what the term for it is) with the gator...

so...if my wheels are 92cm in diameter, that makes the circumference 2.89m...the VCU should rotate every 113m. And presumably after 1 rotation, the liquid should be well dsitributed... I'll let you know how I get ont! So to clarify, I should seperate the front prop from the IRD, rotate the...

@Hippo, spotted what you said in that thread you linked "A brand new vcu is machine welded. It's true the viscous fluid inside falls to the bottom of the vcu if left standing. But those like me who have drained a vcu know the fluid moves. Not as quick as water but it does move faster than you...

I will give the prop a bit of a rotate on the weekend and will post my findings...see if it makes a DIFFerence (get it?) If that fails, it'll be props off until I can afford a decent pair, along with refurb VCU and nice bearings.

Yup! Although I didn't see a caravan...so presumably it melted into a puddle

ALSO! When I got my new props, the UJ's were very floppy/loose. Should they be floppy? Or stiff The reason I ask, is I originally got a Britpart prop. When I realised I needed both props replacing, I got my money back and bought two cheaper ones. The Britpart Prop UJ was pretty stiff. The cheap...

It's worth a shot. Could misalignment cause wobbly problems do you think? Gonna have a good fiddle on Saturday before sending it back There was some discussion on a thread before... Freelander Propshaft Assembly

    Freelander 1 Rumbley at 40mph

A little update on the situation. New rear tyres have made a BIG difference. Everything is quieter. But still have a little rumble. So I got the hump and took it to a mate who runs a garage (why I didn't I do this in the first place, I hear you ask? I like having a go first. Then if I fudge it...

    Burnt Out Disco on M20

Saw a vehicle fire on the M20 Coastbound this afternoon, which turned out to be a Discovery. Whole thing burnt to a crisp. Hope it wasn't anyone on LandyZone! Ambulance was still on site, so presumably nobody was hospitalised...I hope!

I've just ordered my two new tyres for the back (so will now have all new tyres, hurrah!). Having given them a little closer inspection, I noticed the front tyres had a different load rating to the ones on the rear...would that cause conflicted rolling? p.s. the new tyres ARE the same load rating!

    VCU Torque test results

I had to spin the rear wheels in order to rotate the diff mount the other day and they spun fine, so I'm fairly confident that the brakes are alright. Gonna gonna go with a knackered VCU on this one

    VCU Torque test results

Did the one up test on my FL1 TD4 (2005), bought 5 months ago. Not much in terms of history. 110,000miles. Took about 12 years for the VCU to turn. 1.2m bar w/ 7.5kg weight - 1 min 11 sec Suppose I should get a new VCU, eh?

Think I'll get in touch with Bell Engineering at some point and get a refurb unit. Will get the prop off the time being, as I don't want to hurt the IRD or Rear Diff. Typical, just as the weather is starting to get four wheel drivey

    Freelander 1 Rumbley at 40mph

Just did the one wheel up. Used a 1.2m bar with 8kg weight on the end (well, 7.5kg, was the best I could do) and it took just over 1 min to rotate the 45*. That's a good sign right?

Thanks for al your help guys. Payday this week, so I'm gonna try and get all 4 tyres replaced. After balancing all the tyre pressures (they were all different), the rumble SEEMS to have lessened, but still present, so hopefully new tires will do the trick. Checked the VCU after my drive to work...
