both will do 70mph all day no probs.for 10k you can get a nice TD5 but they gonna be more expensive to fix. 300tdi is more basic engine you will get a very nice one for well under 10k fix it urself I'd get one of them but if ur willing to spend its ur call

becus them motors is crude an unrefind so they last forever and so yous can fix em wi a big ammer. merc do a 4(ish) litre td engine with bags o torque and plenty o grunt does about 40mpg but its run off a micro chip and fixed by a 12 year old wi a degree in computer science. would ya want that...

i dont know how much torque a defender drive train can cope with but i remember hearing that the 2.8tgv motor that some ppl wedge in blows diffs, shafts n g boxes with half as much torque as ur audi motor. im not tryin to discourage you i think its a great idea would very much like to see the...

it will be a pain in the arse to install. you will not only have to change g box but diffs and drive shafts as well cos of all that torque.

you gotta take off the pump an chack the fins for wear rusting n damage. also they should spin properly. my 19j in my 110 will do 60mph eventually but small hills will nock that down to about 50 and big ones much lower.
