Just got back in from taking things to bits and investigating. Seems the tensioner is well fooked. It's as loose as a whore fanny. doesn't even seem to be any bearings left in it. New tensioner and rad ordered from Paddocks. New belt ordered from LR main dealer.

Changed the altinator / water pump belt and tensioner a few months and a few thousand miles ago. All was fine and dandy. Then on Sunday the belt pinged off the tensioner and punctured my rad. Any ideas as to why this would happen with no warning signs such as screaching from the tensioner...

Out of interest, what part of Derbyshire are you in?, (me = chesterfield-ish).

Just out of interest I have just phoned my local LR main dealers parts dept. They can only supply the latch, but pointed me in the direction of Ebay for the above springs. At £15 for a set for all five doors, I agree that they are steep for what they are, but if you work it out for how much...

Don't you need a special licence to own an armoured vehicle, even if to B1 spec? (ie; be an accredited security firm?)

Just a little curious here chaps. 1996 Disco 300TDI manual, running on 235/70/16 MT's. Drivetrain, engine and turbocharger otherwise standered as far as I am aware. On a pretty much flat road, I'm doing about 1100rpm in 5th. Just wondered how this compares to others, as i'm not 100% certain...

I had some slight splits on mine. Got a hydrolic pipe supplys place to sort mine out, including putting the old connectors onto the new pipe for less than a fiver.

If the car is worth fook all, (and lets be honest, our Discos are), why doesn't he just not use it? Sure, an extra £700 would be a nice little kicker, but it aint that much dough, and is very soon spent. Unless he kids are going hungry, I'd suggest just mothballing the motor for a while...

Edited to add; Mines stock suspension.

I have 235/70/16 Insa MT's fitted. No probs with rubbing on the radious arms. Under very heavy off road use they will sometimes rub the rear arches ever so slightly on the rebound. Nothing to worry about though 99% of the time.

No idea, but I'm all ears.
