Another thing that I have noticed is the output shaft from the gearbox has quite a bit of lateral play. It is tight in the seal but can be moved slightly in all directions, is this normal?

I did try tightening the kickdown cable, it seemed to make the changes occur even later. I then adjusted it back to about 1 mm from the cable stop.

It could be torque lock. I just find it a lot less relaxing to drive compared with my old RR. It would go into top at 50mph.
