Hi all I have all of a sudden got a bad leak of what looks like atf (red oil) and its all over the left hand side of the engine bay and running under the disco. I cant find anything that looks like its leaking but the gearbox atf dipstick seems to pop out of the tube alittle, would this be...

Right been under the disco and taken off the front prop and to my horror the bolt that holds the flange into the front axle was loose. I have done it up to test it and all the play has gone. If I took the bolt out, cleaned it and put some lock on it and did it up would it be ok does anyone...

Would have to happen wouldn't it just when I tax it :doh: Not sure its called but I think its the input bearing (using the search function) but I got underneath the disco and the prop has about 1-2 mm of play in it where it goes into the diff. Is this ok or is it best to change it? If I need to...

All sorted they have given me my money back ( after a bit of a discussion )and I guess that tells me that they knew they were in the wrong. I,m not going back there again and I made sure they knew this ( after I got my money out of them ). Cheers for all the replies guys. Hilly1.

Ok all done and it was out when they got it onto there machine so it wasn,t set right. Drives in a straight line and wheel now in the center at last. The other garage is still saying they where right and its my steering at fault. I,m not going to leave it there I want some or all of my money back.

If its not raining tomorrow then I,m going to try the pole technique. Thanks guys will let you know what happens.

Went to another garage today about my tracking only to be told that they dont do tracking on motors with 18" rims. I told him that it was on std 16" disco rims and he told me that I have got the wrong wheels and tyres on it thats why it wrong. I dont need to say that I didnt stay there long...

I am going to them this week to ask for my cash back and not going to let them touch the Disco again as I think your right they didn't have a clue by the looks of it I have got both Nene overland and Footloose 4x4 on my door step I just hope they do tracking.

When my 1998 300tdi went for its mot I was advised to change a track rod end. Got home and thought sod it if I,m going to get under it and dirty I will change both. All done and I drove it and the tracking was out alittle, so I took it for tracking drove it away and the steering wheel was off...

Sorry to jump in on this thread but would it also be the springs on my door locks as I can open the motor with the key fob but have to lock it with the key as when I lock with the key fob all the buttons go down but not the drivers door ( it trys to go down but wont ) and so it all opens again...

Hi all I've just changed the bearing on the tensioner on the alternator belt now the tensioner bearing on the air con belt has started the sing to me. Are the two bearings the same or a different size? Its a 1998 300tdi Thank you.

I had the same problem and removed all the hose from under the bonnet including the bit from the tee piece on the brake pedal and replaced it with new and this fixed it.

Yes the engine was still running. The Transfer box was also on my mind so I drained the oil from it and put in new so I could check the old oil but it didn't seem to be leaking into it. Thank you anyway.

Anything you can do to help would be great. I make sure its on level ground go though all the gears when cold and check levels then. The level always needs topping up at least once every two weeks (or two / three hundred miles) as the level drops to just below the min mark, when fill up to max...
