Stuck in the mud in my TD5

Thanks Mat - that article was very interesting. I now know my car was made in solihul and is a TD5 EGR non-cat. Yes, have already tried very gently pushing the little knob to the left and it didn't budge, so I assume I ain't got diff lock. Like one of the people posting in that other...

Stuck in the mud in my TD5

Thanks for the thought Jac, but I'm ok. I passed my test in 1990! I'm aware about this change in the law, and I agree with it. I tow my caravan, and I'm amazed that my husband and I and everyone else who passed their tests before 97 can hook up and drive away. Does seem a bit bonkers, but...

Stuck in the mud in my TD5

Right, have just re-read my owner's hand book, and it says nothing about diff lock, moving the transfer box lever to the left to engage, or a warning light that looks like a dumbell, so that makes me think my disco does NOT have diff lock... although, when I phoned LR they asked me if had it...

Stuck in the mud in my TD5

Thanks for the advice Yella disco. Unfortunately, I don't own the trailer so will have limited time to practice, but that is a very ggod idea. I shall drive around next Saturday with it, and practice. I'm quite used to towing as I tow a 'van but appreciate the load I'm carrying will be very...

Stuck in the mud in my TD5

Thanks to all for the replies so far. I don't plan on going off roading, but I am towing a horse trailer next w/e with 2 fat hairy cobs in it, and I haven't towed a horse trailer before. It is likely to be very muddy, so I'm a bit concerned that I'm going to get stuck in it. I don't think...

Stuck in the mud in my TD5

sorry, forgot to mention that. It's got Michelin 4x4 road tyres (can give you exact details tomorrow but too dark to read tyres tonight!) they've got quite a bit of tread left on them, but are obviously normal road tyres.

Stuck in the mud in my TD5

Hi all, Last week, I got stuck in the mud (clay) on a verge. It was on a slight incline, and naively I reversed onto this verge to turn my car around, but then couldn't get off :o This is the first time I've driven my car in v muddy conditions, and I think I probably caused the problem. I...

Should I buy a Disco II for towing 'van

Cheers for that Yella. Checked my disco handbook from LR and it states that the front tyres should be 28. What are the effects of putting the front ones upto 36 or 40? Someone mentioned it effects handling? Should I be cautious? :?

Should I buy a Disco II for towing 'van

Thank you mat - I couldn't remember who it was! Um it's a bit dark to take a photo now, but I will take one tomorrow and put it on here! I'm quite proud of myself! I know all you blokes out there will think I'm just a beep beep woman, but I bought the dog guard 2 weeks ago, and I just...

Should I buy a Disco II for towing 'van

Wow Ormus!!! They really can tow well looking at the link you posted above! I feel a bit of a fraud after seeing that piccy! I will be towing a Coachman with my Landy. It's MTPLM is 1450 Kg, so it's quite heavy. We nearly lost the lot when we were towing the 'van with a volvo 940. The...

Should I buy a Disco II for towing 'van

Unfortunately Willy, I don't have SLS! That would have been cool though! I now have a tow bar :) and today I fitted a dog guard (all by myself!!!), which I purchased from Paddock Spares, thanks to a kind person on this website advising me about them. We haven't towed with the Landy yet, but...

Strange noise when Idling - is this normal?

Thanks for that 8342mat. I think the one I've seen is the right one for my car. I will check out the paddocks website. Why is the mesh one better that the bar one? Coz the holes are smaller? Julia

Strange noise when Idling - is this normal?

So could a series II be a 300 TDi? Or are all series II diesels TD5's?

    Hot legs!

I have a 51 plate manual disco 2 so I will check mine next time I drive it - can't say I've noticed any heat though. One thing I have noticed is that if you've just used the car, and then you stop, get out, come back and drive it again, the cabin does feel warm, and warm air comes through the...
