Hi all,

Well I've had my Disco 2 for nearly 3 weeks, and I love it! I'm getting used to it and all the different things about it compared to normal cars.

When the car is idling, it makes a sort of farty noise about every 10 seconds, a sort of hissing noise. Rev counter doesn't change, car runs nice and smooth. Dealer reckons its the ACE system - could he be right? It doesn't have SLS and it makes this noise with air con on or off. Am I worrying about nothing? If you have the windows closed, you can only just hear it. With the bonnet up, you can't hear it at all above the engine, and it's hard to pinpoint where the noise is coming from. Obviously I haven't driven any other Disco's for any length of time aprt from mine, so I have nothing to compare it too.

Sometimes when I pull away in gears 1 and 2 it makes a hissing type noise too, but that's normally in the morning when it's cold. Could this be the same issue?

Also, can anyone tell me when Disco's changed from I to II exactly? Have seena dog guard on Ebay and the guy's not sure if it will fit my Disco. He says it's for a series II and he took it out of an S reg.

Any ideas/advice gratefully received.

Regards,

Julia

Not sure on the noise problem, but don't recall my TD5 making this noise.

The change to Series II was in 1998, one easy way to tell is by the rear lights, the lights are mounted low down on the Series I, and much higher up on the Series II.

on ebay 170034566177 is for the td5
290036448705 is for the 200/300

the easy way is that if the sides go up at a straight angle, that is without a bend half way up then it will not fit yours. have a look at the difference on the two examples.

watch what you pay as a new mesh one, which is the best, is only £76 from paddocks.

hope this helps oh and they are easy to fit even if the mounting brackets are not already there. a little patience and small hands helps with the drilling and bolting of the bottom mounts ;)

Thanks for that 8342mat. I think the one I've seen is the right one for my car. I will check out the paddocks website. Why is the mesh one better that the bar one? Coz the holes are smaller?

yes that is the correct one for yours.
only problem is it is not being sold with the actual mounting brackets that are perminately attached to the car.
the rest of the guard and its mounting brackets are.
the vehicle mounts will be available from a dealer if yours are not already in place.

mesh one better because of hole size bear in mind most are used for stopping luggage rather than dogs.

farty noise no idea.
