If it is the head, that's beyond me and the garage has quoted 1500-2000 to do that lol, what do you think I can sell it for as is? It's a 96 2.5TD 139k miles, good condition otherwise but possible head failure. Tax and test. Rears tinted, bodywork in good nic. Cheers

okay, got it off and the pump out, it looks fine though.. here is some pics, there is a wee hairline crack but no breaks: So the thermostat opens and closes, the pump looks fine?? Any way of checking the rad as it's the last option before giving up and accepting the head has gone :(

ah :) I do appreciate the help. Now the pulley is stuck on, any tips or am I missing something? I assumed it was just the 4 bolts and it popped off?

got the belt off, next problem, the pulley won't come off the pump. I took the 4 short bolts out, is it just stuck on and need a sharp knock?

He went offline and I wanted to start a thread title specifically to this issue. I didnt understand what he was telling me to do. I can't see any way of getting the belt off. How do I remove it? I'm a long way from being a mechanic so need a full explanation to help me out. Thanks

What have / am I doing wrong here? Got the fan and stat out but this is puzzling me.

Have a 96 2.5TD p38 and struggling to get the belt off the water pump. I was unscrewing this bolt you see sticking out thinking that was it and now it's stuck there, it turns either way no problem just won't screw back in or come out. Still can't get the belt loose, don't know what i'm doing :(

Did that, thermostat opens and closes, so can't be that that's causing overheating. Still puzzled as to how to get the belt off the water pump pulley :(

Got the thermostat out, how do I test it and see if it's faulty? Also how do I release tension on the belt to get the water pump out? Cheers

Well I drained the lot to be safe. What coolant is best for the 95/96 2.5 TD p38? Cheers

Do you need to drain the coolant from the block or just the radiator itself? Thanks

I do have the rave manual, but doesn't help when it says in bold "see here for how to do this bit" but there is no clickable link and struggle to find the bit it's on about lol

Think this is all beyong me, fixing cars is beyond me unless there is a good guide. For example, not sure how to remove the water pump and stat, how to release tension on the belt etc etc :(

I take it the viscous fan needs removing to get the pump off so I'd need a special tool for that? Does the radiator need removing?
