i think my vcu is gone what now

Can confirm Willo is correct. Some peeps advocate puting a bar in rear UJ of prop shaft to test - however, and especially if manual gearbox, NEVER go underneath relying on jack only and even if on axle stand, both front wheels should be chocked front and rear of the wheels to prevent movement as...

    Fuel gauge problems

Well spotted Mantamad! Couldn't find the access to pump part on Rave - obviously didn't look hard enough:confused: Attaching dia showing how to remove the unit so it can also be tested by manually moving the sender unit.

    Fuel gauge problems

Attached are two pics showing expected voltages at various levels of fuel in the tank and also circuit dia of feeds. Haven't any knowledge of your prob but hope this helps? Dia of tank shows that sender and delivery are all one unit and can be removed from top of tank which, I assume, required...

    Should I have a disco?

Stuck in 1st gear, Yella??? :o York to Warsaw in 24 hours - proper shagged I was when I got here as it peed it down all the way from Hanover. Couldn't bloody sleep neither when I got here as the brain was still in motion. (Yeah, ok, leaving myself wide open with that comment!)The disco might be...

    Should I Buy??

TD4 is a great vehicle! If its got a service history, all the better. Buying any used car is a gamble and TD4 is no exception. VCU can be a problem - lots on LZ about this subject. Take it for a test drive and find a place to reverse on tight lock - it should run free round and round on tick...

    Best/cheapest place for parts (online)?

Rave warns against hammering against the VCU itself - ie holding VCU body in a vice (or some other holding device) to hammer the bearing(s) off - as it knackers the VCU! Me, I always weaken pressed bearing that are accessible with a disc cutter - but a puller is the best and safest advise.

My Freelander has gone into the garage, guess the final cost?

Update - blocked it up and got missus to run it up to 80Km in fourth - rear wheel bearing grumbling like hell! She asked me what to do if it came off the stands - say bye bye as you pass, says I. She's not a happy bunny! Got a bit worried as Hill descent, Hill descent failure and Traction...

My Freelander has gone into the garage, guess the final cost?

They're about half worn - Michelin synchron. No feathering on rears. (or ex rears as it is now). Anyway, no probs. Just exploring as I have similar to Taipan - VCU turns as per lever in prop test and I dropped complete prop assy off to test if it was VCU support bearings. All ok there! Gonna get...

My Freelander has gone into the garage, guess the final cost?

Used to be standard practice years ago and recommended by all major tyre companies but, thanks for the heads up on this matter, Retsgom. Will take your advise and will revert them back over the weekend when I get it blocked up. Will be interesting to see if the "bad vibes" return!

    Should I have a disco?

The Dog guard - or gun carrier, depending on what part of the world you live in, would be ideal for hanging a few shelves off - would save you drilling anything on the body. The ES has roof bars and removable cross members should be in tool bag under rear seat. Useful, if push comes to shove...

My Freelander has gone into the garage, guess the final cost?

Have I missed something here Retsgom? All tyres are the same make and with what appears to be same wear. Will revert if it is dangerous, of course! Plan to block all four corners up this weekend anyway and get a listening tool too see if I can isolate some noise.

Well Taipan, if nowt else, you've created one of the most readable threads so far in my humble opinion! Am waiting with anticipation for the next episode - along with many others I suspect! Reduced my vibration by swopping wheels front to back diagonally and pumping up to 3o psi all round(never...
