Shaky hands (and not through drink)

Harmonic balancer or torsional vibration damper is the complete crank pulley assembly in the front of the engine that drives all the belts. it is a 2 piece affair that has the inner hub seperated from the outer pulley by a thin section of bonded rubber. Without this device the engine will...

    the best oil???

With regard to 'Slick50' if you go to thier website there are no more claims of making your engine perform better or last longer. The reason is that they were fined $20M for false claims over thier product. The only claims they make know are that it prevents friction and heat, and considering...

    P38 Shock choice

The problem is 'good shocks' are different things to different people. I'm not trying to get sports car handling I just wan't a solid comfortable ride. So I'm wondereing if OEs will be the best bet. I don't know if this is typical, but I feel the rear axle is a little bit more lively than the...

    eas reset?

I doubt it. but for about £15.00 you can get a lead and download free software that will do the job if it is a resetable fault. You will need a PC with a serial connector or a USB to serial port. Ebay is your place. And as a subnote I would not disconnect the baterry unless you have to, you...

    P38 Shock choice

I did look on ebay but at the moment they are 6 quid short of £400. I know they are good but you have to draw the line somewhere on a £3000 car.

    P38 Shock choice

Not wanting to spend £100 a corner for Koni shocks it looks like the easily available alternatives are Pro Comp ES9000 or Monroe. What experience do people have with these, and which one to go for. Ride comfort is important and the suspension is not going to get smashed about off road Karl

A nice easy one. Towbar question

98 P38 Can the swan neck be replaced with a standard flange mount towball design. I don't want to replace the whole towbar, just the removable extension. And if the answer is yes, anyone got one for sale or want to do a swap Karl

Don't laeve the sunroof open in the rain!

Yep, the electrics really are a pile of s..t. As a result permenant damage so far seems to be the rear wiper, the drive has gone all limp so its just hanging down vertical. I think it has damaged the drive or motor by running on a dry surface. That was another item that ran of it's own accord...

Don't laeve the sunroof open in the rain!

Yeah, i'd guessed that was the source of most of the problems. Like most P38s my aircon doesn't work

How much oil does your P38 BMW diesel engine use?

I think every manufacturer quotes something like 1000/litre so that they don't have to replace engines under warranty if they wear prematurely. But i would consider a 'GOOD' engine should never use that much.
