Morning all, I want a cheapish fault reader for plugging in to the diagnostic socket on a 1999 Freelander. What can anyone recommend?

Morning all, My 1.8 freelander refuses to talk through the diagnostic socket. The readout says "no system found". (It also has the 3 amigos and SBS lit which is wot I was hoping to get guidance from it on) Any ideas?

I had that. Mine was the shaft going into the clutch housing. They eventually seize up due to a mismatch of metals. A quick fix is to spray penetrating oil along the shaft. Do it asap before the shaft seizes completely and the clutch slave cylinder slips off the mounting bracket and...

Don't do it. Freelanders have more than average problems.

Stiff clutch? Spray penetrating oil where the the pushrod goes into the clutch asssy/gearbox at bottom of engine bay. Leave overnight. Mine seized up and required a blowtorch too. Check mounting bracket for slave cylinder isn't bending. Get someone to press clutch pedal while you watch the slave...

If they are not run regularly I believe the seals dry up. I read somewhere that they should be run once a month to prevent this. Freelander ac 's aren't very robust, much like the rest of the vehicle... mine gave up years ago as did I...

First the good news; my 2nd replacement head gasket is still ok and the holes I drilled in what I thought was a hand washing basin in the back seem to have worked. Now the bad news; another little problem to puzzle over. The SRS light has decided to have a life of its own. It stays on sometimes...

Fuse is Ok, couldn't see any broken wires. Where does the sensor get connected to before going to the gauge?

Greetings all, Yet another niggle; on my 1.8 1999 Freelander with another new head gasket ( all fingers and legs crossed); the temperature gauge has now ceased to work. I've put in a new sender as the most obvious choice but that didn't do it. Any ideas as what to look for next, please?

Clutch flooring unexpectedly? I had that. I thought I might need a new clutch as well. Cause was the shaft seizing up. causing the bracket that holds the slave cylinder to bend and the slave to come off the mounting and explode. Quite a common occourance according to Autoparts, my sparts...

Hope you have plenty of money handy for this little repair. Mine cost about £350 with fitting at a LR dealer. Don't forget to replace and seal the weathershield or the cubbybox fills with even more water. Try Autopost for parts.

The modified steel gasket ( or similar) that has now been used for almost 2 years (see various threads) is supposed to cure the problem. My HG was replaced prior to this and is needing attention again. If you haven't done any serious damage to the engine you could get it done for £450 upwards...
