Part in and its working! I also worked out the reason why it was so hard to diagnose - as well as the handle on the micro-switch being broken, the connector to the solenoid was also intermittently faulty - probably caused by me sticking meter probes into it. This explains why I was seeing...

Dann, I've got one organised, but had to pay $200 which is currently around 100 pounds - and this is from a wrecker, news ones in the UK are 70-80 pounds whereas new ones here are 190 pounds. I should put some serious thought into re-selling LR stuff from the UK, last year I had to replace the...

"Saint" Dann, agree that forums are a slow way to communicate, but it does force people to go away and solve problems themselves in-between posts rather than depending completely on your patience and experience. If they (we) could Skype you I doubt you'd ever get a spare moment. I was just...

    freelander td4 rear door jammed

Dann, it's 9:30pm and I am sitting here sipping a cool "coopers" beer in quiet celebration because I have found the problem! You instincts were quite correct, it was the microswitch in the handle which was jammed closed circuit. After I had got the right circuit diagram (I had been looking at...

Don't you ever sleep? When I was testing the rear latch switch I was doing it by having the tailgate window down and reaching out of the car whilst sitting in the boot rather than having the door open. We must think alike because I also thought the car must have got 'confused' about the...

    freelander td4 rear door jammed

I got quite excited because there was a spring jamming the return of the mechanism. I unscrewed the finger plate screws and pulled it out. One of the screws was broken and jamming the mechanism the other is rusty but still functional. Despite this, when the mechanism working correctly I still...

Or I could ship the door to you! Actually something similar had occurred to me but I decided to not try tonight. I'll give that a go tommorow...I think I had a moment of weakness when I said I would give up! I actually tried to take the whole handle off last week, then changed my mind half way...

    freelander td4 rear door jammed

I've cleaned up the earth header, and checked a few more connections to no avail. I noticed that when I disconnect and then reconnect the connector that carries the live cables for the solenoid and the door switch that the solenoid actually fires and the rear window lowers slightly and the door...

Dann, I took your advice, and yes when I apply 12v to the solenoid it activates, so you were correct in thinking its working. So if the solenoid is ok and I can see voltage pulses across is at the appropriate times, then does this mean a bad earth or connection sucking away voltage? I just...

    freelander td4 rear door jammed

Dann, the solenoid has resistance, a few ohms. When the door is locked should I expect a permanent 12v on the solenoid? as I don't see it. I only see a pulse of voltage as I open and close the central locking. Other oddbits - 1. The rear window works, but doesn't drop when I use the rear door...

Well, its got a flat tyre now, so I had to sort that first, except the bolt on the bike rack on the rear tyre had seized, so I spend a hour getting that off to get to the spare, had to destroy the bike rack. Finally got round to testing the other stuff, the fog lamps are fine (yes we do get that...

Mate, checked those fuses, no problems. In fact I sat there and checked every fuse! Tedious with that little red thing...all are OK. Any other suggestions? I do live near the Ocean and there are some cliffs...

Dann - I'm trying to sue the CCU test sequence to test inputs and outputs etc, but I can't get the damn thing to work. I've just spent 25 mins going over and over the sequence but can't get it working. 1. Turn the ignition 'on' 2. Press and hold the rear fog switch 'on' 3. Turn the ignition...

Well, that explains it then! Do you want another one? I'll do you a cheap price with shipping thrown in, only 120,000km on the clock! I love the car, but in the last 12 month I've had to replace a fuel pump, viscous coupling, 4 new tyres, fix an oil leak, stereos bust, two window regulators...

    freelander td4 rear door jammed

Thanks mate, I got a copy of RAVE and worked out the relays are for the windows. I initially tried the door from the inside with the glass down. I tried the test you suggested - nothing, so I am going to replace the solenoid at the weekend, I can't find one locally apart from the dealers but...

    freelander td4 rear door jammed

Vic/Dann, the window isn't lowering when I use the rear tailgate handle however the window goes up and down fine otherwise - so I don't think the window motor is at fault (I've also already gone through the recalibration procedure). However, if the signal to lower the window slightly when the...

    freelander td4 rear door jammed

Dann, your guidance is very much appreciated. Had the multimeter out, and when nothing is happening there is no voltage on the solenoid connectors (connectors at the base), when I lock / unlock via the remote there is a voltage pulse on the connection. So I think that is correct? I'm assuming...

    freelander td4 rear door jammed

Dann, got the door open - trick is to take the torx screws off the cover of the solenoid, which gives enough access to put a tent peg up to hook around the arm that connects the solenoid rod to the door mechanism. A quick tug and it comes down easily. Proud that I managed that...but the wires...
