Kerbweight of a Freelander 1.8 is about 1457kg, if you are towing a caravan you could theoretically tow a van up to that weight fully laden although the 85% rule suggests it should not weigh more than 1238kg.

Hi people, I would appreciate your advice on a rattle on my L Series. At first I thought it was fanbelt so replaced this but no real improvement. Rattling sound at idle which goes away when engine revved, sounds to be coming from alternator, belts area. When engine turned off it sounds off...

OP I think I have the very same noise only mine is with a L series diesel. It only happens as you say when accelerating and under load. The only thing I have to add is that I only noticed mine doing it after I had removed the front prop and VCU (VCU seized, IRD knackered etc) - are you sure...

Any advice on a problem with my L series would be appreciated. Had a 'rattling' noise from direction of fan belt for a week or so and starting to think its time to replace it, especially bad in morning when engine cold. I had a similar noise last year and my friendly mechanic changed the belt...

Gents, I would appreciate some advice with my Freelander L series. A couple of weeks ago I posted a message on here regarding a banging I was getting when reversing on lock - it was regular (like as if per each revolution of prop), very loud and would almost shake the vehicle - it was coming...

My rear offsided subframe mount went last year and I had it sorted - this is way louder and sounds to be coming from the front of the car (just about where the IRD is!:()

Is there a way of locking and immobilising my Freelander 1 (1999/V) without activating the alarm? I am going on a longish ferry crossing in August and the ferry company ask that while onboard vehicles are locked but alarms are turned off, presumably to stop them going off if it's a bit rough...

OP - just had exact the same problem with my L series, same symptoms as yours, sometimes it would not start at all on the coldest of mornings we have had recently. Last weekend I replaced the glow plugs and its fixed now, starts every time. After I removed them I tested the old glow plugs...

How long would a garage charge to change the glow plug behind the fuel pump on an L series? I know the alternator, fuel pump etc has to be removed to do this one. I've done the other three no problem and it starts 95% better but I want to get number 4 one too as the old ones didn't even light...

I tow a 5 berth Swift with a V reg L series and its FAB !!!

In defence of 'Mr Clutch' I have used my local branch for both my cars for the last couple of years and they have been fine !!! (all passed tho ....) We'll see how they get on this time tho next month, it will be the first one for my V reg Freelander since I got it last February .....
