300tdi, smokes like hell on cold start

Thats fine mate. The ones I have are off a motor that had covered 150k so you are no doubt better off with the recon ones. We have just a bit of snow here for a change, but what we do have has frozen so Ice is our prob. However we are having lovely sunny days here with virtually no wind which...

300tdi, smokes like hell on cold start

I may have 4 injectors somewhere. Sorry to be vague, but just prior to Xmas I'd had a lot of work done to my house and had packed a load of stuff into boxes including my Landy spares. They came off a 95 300Tdi that was running, but has since been dismantled to a degree. From what I can remember...

    All terrain V Road biased

I have BFG A/Ts on my 94 300Tdi and they are amazing. I've now done 22k on them and they still have the best part of 7mm tread. Last August I went to a horse event and ended up in torrential rain and having to tow a box with horse on board out of a complete swamp. I made sure I was in low gears...

    transmission oils

Just before winter dropped on us I had to put my 95 300Tdi into storage so changed all oils before I did. I put ATF into main gearbox, EP 80-90 into transfer box and both axles and one stop grease into the swivels. Hope this helps.

300tdi, smokes like hell on cold start

I tend to agree with david451. I had an almost identical problem about 12 months ago and it turned out that it was my timing belt. It had been fitted by some f****r in a stetson and he had fitted a non LR part in place of the idler pulley and as a result my belt had slipped 2 teeth. I was very...

Oil pipe - help on replacing please

I had a similar problem recently only it was an oil cooler pipe on a 300Tdi. Living where I do it can often be difficult to get parts when you really need them and this was the case with this part. I eventually went to an agricultural engineering firm and he made me a new pipe while I waited...

    Ticking Full Beam

I agree with Dom. I have had the very same thing happen to me on a couple of occasions now and each time it has been the high beam has blown on one of my bulbs. Initially I thought I had some serious electric fault, but a change of bulb and all was back to normal.:)

    Oil top up!

Well the first article I found was from The Engine Oil Bible and here it is. Mixing Mineral and Synthetic oils - the old and busted concepts For the longest time, I had this to say about mixing mineral and synthetic oils: If you've been driving around with mineral oil in your engine for...

    Oil top up!

Thanks robint. Thats just dandy. I'm not one to waste things so its saved me having to dispose of it. It also means I don't have to stare at my mistake every day for the next few years I can now use it with confidence. Anyhow I'm not sure what difference there is between semi-synthetic and...

    Oil top up!

I have a 94 300Tdi and need to top my oil up. The engine has conventional oil in at present, but the question is, would there be any vile reaction if I were to top it up with semi-synthetic oil. I picked it up off the shelf some time ago without looking at it properly and didn't notice...

    Rear Indicator Problem

I can definitely agree with the above quote. I dread indicator bulbs going on my 94 300Tdi Disco. Each time I have had to tackle the job it has turned out to be an absolute ****er. There is a knack to it, but that knack has never got any easier for me. You can struggle for ages and ages and then...

HUOOOGGE Turbo lag on 2.5 TDi

I have a 1994 Discovery with the same engine as yours and with very similar mileage and I would have thought it sounds about right. Mine has an amount of nothingness especially when cold, but once the turbo kicks in all seems good. What you have to remember here is is that a Disco is no sports...

    Gone into storage!

Sean, The home of Skullsplitter hmmm. Your just going to be ideally suited for barbys on the beach and some of the best ale in the world to wash it down with then come summer. And as Raskazon says it is a beautiful place to live, but having just spent the last 20 years here the winters are...

    Gone into storage!

I have a manual so I know how important it is to keep the clutch moving. I try and move it every 4 weeks and I also go through my low gears. I detected a bit of stiffness in the lever though last time I moved it. And bird crap is an issue and my motor is red so another trifle on the way if I...

    Gone into storage!

Thanks for the replies folks. One thing I failed to mention is that I am also keeping it in a very dry barn and am in a position to start it and move it round the farm any time I wish, but I am obviously trying to avoid taking it out in wet weather so that it doesn't get put away again wet. This...
