    EGR bypass done.

Ha ha, maybe you're right. Well maybe I've saved myself from a future problem or two - can't have hurt it having all the goo cleaned out.

    EGR bypass done.

Already done the PCV valve a couple of weeks ago, I fitted the upgraded BMW part. The original tampon filter thing was a bit clogged up with oil but looked like it may have still allowed some air passage. Re the synergy mod, probably not going to do this as I don't want the insurance hassle...

    EGR bypass done.

Hi, After reading lots of useful threads on here about the fitting an EGR bypass - I tackled it yesterday. Was a very straight forward job. There was a good degree of sludgy oiling goo in the old EGR valve and the intake manifold was also coated. Most time consuming part of the job was...

    Tyre to alloy sizing.

Considering buying a full new set of tyres. Currently fitted are 195/80/r15...would it be possible to fit 215/75/r15's? Slightly wider tread - rolling circumference is almost identical (I've checked a tyre size calculater). Not really knowing too much about tyre/alloy sizing but I think I...

    Buying used tyres and alloys

When I bought the car the front tyres had recently been replaced (possibly causing my VCU to wear out) - the rears are ok but need replacing soon. Note- these are the tyres that are on the car. This thread is concerned with a new set of alloys and tyres I've just bought....and may yet regret...

    New stereo using steering controls?

Hi. Is it possible to buy a new (non-landrover) stereo that still makes use of the steering wheel controls?

    Buying used tyres and alloys

I've had chance to look really close at each tyre now - and I'm a bit ****ed off I missed a long scratch and a little nick on one tyre - see picture. The nick is about 1-2mm deep. Also on other picture - on the inside of another tyre there is some sign of rubbing or wear near the rim. Why...

    Buying used tyres and alloys

Thanks - that's a good list of things to check. Fairly sure they would pass all your checks but I'll give them an even closer inspection later particularly for any sing of hairline cracks. I did notice that non of them had balance weights - so I'm probably going to need to get them done...

    Buying used tyres and alloys

I'll check later but I suspect the rear tyres currently in use are possibly as old as the car - they are borderline legal. Hence my new purchase.

    Buying used tyres and alloys

OK. I've got them. They looked to be in excellent condition. Alloys are identlical to the ones currently fitted to my freelander so hopefully no problems there. Only a few very minor scuffs and scratches on the alloys - better condition than ones already fitted. Tyres have no signs of any...

    Buying used tyres and alloys

Thanks for the advice. It's interesting to point out though that I bought the car second hand - so the alloys on it are also second-hand - as are the tyres that are currently being used. Cant say I've ever scrutinised the tyres or alloys that closely on any second hand car I've ever bought...

Any particular method for checking circularity? (if that is a real word).

    Buying used tyres and alloys

Hi, I'm going to pick up a set of used freelander alloys with a set of nearly new tyres. I was wondering what I should look out for when I pick them up? Is there anything to watch in terms of damage/wear. Is there anything to check on the alloys? The tyres are General Grabber TR 215/80/r15...

Fun in the Freebie - Italian Alps 2012

Looks very cool....I wanna go! Looks like just the sort of trip I need to justify my freelander purchase. It looks like it was fairly gently off-roading - did you need any special equipment/driving skills? Do you think it would be suitable for a family holiday, and take a toddler along? Matt

    more vcu confusion

martyn....you will no doubt have trawled through the endless threads (one in particular features a bit of a tedious slanging match) on here about VCU "tests" - I don't think anyone can read them and come out the other side any wiser. Unfortunately I dont think we as a community of Freelander...

    another vcu/ird problem?

Had my td4 for a week or two - noticed that it holds back quite a bit in full lock. I know it's meant to be normal to a degree but no idea what that degree is. Anyway - I did the test. Jacked back wheel up, socket on hub nut with 1 meter bar with 5kg weight, took about 1 min 30 sec to turn 45...

Possible Freelander purchase, need a bit of advice.

Hi, Just thought I'd post an update. Got the clutch done yesterday - and ended up putting a new flywheel in too. The mechanic recommended it after he had had chance to inspect it. So for a new clutch, dual mass flywheel, and slave cyclinder/bearing £725. Was hoping to get away with no new...

Possible Freelander purchase, need a bit of advice.

Hi, Thanks for the advice. I've just looked at the first 2 pages (available free on the website) of the august article on clutch replacement....and I've decided pretty quickly that that aint a job for me. I've only got a small garage and it does look like a proper ramp is needed - I'm not up...
