    Emissions - MOT

Sounds a bit "Due South", but I often sniff the exhaust to see if I can smell unburnt fuel. You could use a colour tune to check for complete combustion. I tend to adjust the fuel richer till the revs drop, then leaner until they drop again. I then put a vacume guage on the car, tweak the...

    Vibrating gearsticks & Clutch Judder!

Hi, Hehe... you aren't a fully initiated landie owner are ya! ;) Depends how badly things are vibrating. Depending on the landie, they all have their own characters, the gear stick may rattle it's just the nature of the beast. If it kicks when you put power on, or when you take it off... Then...

    Where to buy

Used to be Huddersfield Landrover did restoration and resale of SIII. Strathearn Engineering in Auchterarder had some nice wagons last time I went by a few months back. It's always buyer beware, an you better get ready to travel and choose your frog carefully. You can snog many of em all you...

    Wolf wheels on a Lightweight...

Wolf wheels are 7" I think... like the 130 rims..

    Freewheel hubs

The steering is slightly heavier on mine when they are engaged and it's a fraction slower off the lights... I think... maybe... Having said that in the winter I leave em engaged, by the time the landie needs the front wheels on the ice I feel like Bambi trying to get to the hubs!

    Parabolics (again)

Performance shocks may use oil too, but it will be a more temperature stable one... ;) They will also be designed to cool down more under high use.

    Parabolics (again)

Yup that's right, and the ProComp shocks, for example, are designed to take more heat from the added movement of the softer springs. They are also stiffer to compensate for the softer spring. The proper name for a shock absorber in mechanical and engineering terms is a "damper", the damper of...

    Parabolics (again)

Softer springs means faster and more movement, it's why they hold the road more. Therefore you have more heat and need firmer damping to get rid of low frequency wallow. The std shocks will work, but you won't get the full benefit of the Parabolics with them and when you use them for a serious...

    Need for more speed

Hi Doobie, I have a Roverdrive, I've had if for a few years now I was one of the first in the country. They are quieter and have a common oil supply with the main box. Generally they are very good. I have had issues with mine, but I don't know how much is down to the Indian sourced parts in my...

    Door that won't open!

Interesting point about WD40. It's made from fish oil and some other chemicals that after a time form a residue. This residue becomes a sticky solid deposit. Unfortunately it's pretty insoluble to most things and when in locks now lock smiths are starting to charge extra for removing WD40...

    Serious rattles and vibration. Help

I will add to the UJ chorus. One way to tell if it is drive chain related. Stick the car in neutral on a gentle hill and let it roll. If the noise starts as a slow bump-bump-bump and gets louder and faster as you accelorate it is almost certainly down wind of the clutch and drive chain. UJ's...

    Help? What size tyre please?..................

    Help? What size tyre please?..................

Hi, Be careful here... A little known fact I found a few years back as I run my SIII on 130 rims, similar to Wolf rims. The tyre companies don't view the standard LR rims as wide enough for the 225 and 235 tyres. When I spoke to BF Goodrich they said that for a 225 tyre, a 7" rim width was...

    Landrover Parts Return Policy

Hi Guys, I had an interesting experience with Landrover this morning that I thought would be of interest to other folk who maintain their own vehicles. I bought a Water expansion tank from my local Landrover dealer, for my 300Tdi. The original had sprung a leak, and being a pressure vessel I...

News Discovered this morning I spoke to Craddocks this morning about an advert I spotted stating they have Fairey Overdrive parts. Apparently they have some, but they hope to get more. When Fairey were sold by Superwinch their equipment was sold to a US firm. This was a few years back...
