    Diff Plugs

These always get chewed up on removal. I had to get mine out using a screw driver hammered in I think. I got brass ones off ebay but I read that B&Q sell em too as they are a standard plumbing fitting. Cheers, Andy

    Tracking problems

After having the main dealer in Belfast make a balls of my tracking twice, I went to a place recommended by my local independant (Philip White Tyres in Lisburn). This place has a machine that provides a print out of figures achieved against expected for the car. I was suprised to get a print out...

Misfire at 2500 revs when overtaking?

Could the misfire actually be the engine over boosting? I have read in the past that the ECU cuts power momentarily when boost pressure gets over a certain level. Not sure what causes this though! Could someone have been tinkering with the wastegate actuator rod, making it too short and...

    My First time DIY

Defo worth cleaning the MAF as suggested with a spray cleaner. I used electrical contact cleaner from Maplins and a cotton bud. It made a big differance to my car. As an experiment, ages ago, before cleaning, I unlugged the MAF and the car didn't feel any different. I then thought mine must be...

Nice one mate! Glad you got it sorted!

Intermittent loss of 2nd and 4th gear manual box

When you let go of the gear lever does it come to rest at the 3rd and 4th gate? If it comes to rest over at the left, at the 1st and 2nd gate, then the bias plate will have broken. The bit that breaks off could be floating around and obstructing these gears. This is an easy and cheap fix if...

    to sidestep or not?

I have them on my D2 and I think they look crap. They really spoil the look of the car for me. My kids are still quite small and find them useful for getting in and out. It's only a matter of time to I take them off though, cause I really hate them.

    New problem for td5

Would you mind posting back if this fixes it mate? My 2000 TD5 has started doing this as well. I was thinking of just lubing the throttle pedal somewhere, but maybe there is more to it as suggested. Mine only does it from 1st to 2nd gear! Cheers, Andy

    TD5 Starter Motor Bolts

I did mine by lying on my back with my feet towards the front of the car and reaching up and over the top of the starter motor. I had an extension bar on the socket and I could just about get some purchase with the ratchet. The extension bar was in effect parallel to the body of the starter...

Cant get it into gear, TD5

Hi mate. The piece of metal that breaks off the bias plate typically, could well be stuck and interefering with the gear lever. Replacing the bias plate is defo DIY although it's a bit fiddly. Probs selecting first and reverse could be a hydraulic issue. I had diffs selecting first...

    discovery td5 injector loom

Yes, get a genuine LR rocker cover gasket. I got a non-genuine one off ebay and it was rubbish. I had to reuse my old one in the end. On the FPR, my local Specialist, BLRC in Belfast, charged me one hours labour to fit mine. I thought that was pretty fair. Cheers, Andy
