    Temp guage removal

You need to take the whole binnacle off because they are held in place with a "u" shaped bracket and a knurled nut. Its not a big job only 4 screws holding the binnacle on, would be a good idea tho to undo your speedo cable at the gearbox to avoid stretching and breaking it.

    Defender tyres

The only problem with the width is extra weight and wear on your steering components, plus you will lose a hell of a lot of turning circle to stop them fouling your radius arms. A 2" lift would be a very good idea too, too stop fouling your inner arches You can get wider arch extensions...

    Defender tyres

Here you go woods767 Cooper discoverer st on 16" x 8" steel modular rims, no suspension lift the tyres give 2" extra ground clearance alone, just adjusted the steering stops, to stop them fouling on the radius arms.

Trust me the transfer gear internals are as battered as a hamburg whores' chuff too, The transfer gear went at the same time as its splined to the shaft, it's relatively cheap fix to mine was 356quid.

    LT77 problem

Hey grumbleweed, had the same prob with my lt77 sept last year it sounds exactly the same as mine, it will probably be the rear splines on the main shaft of the gear box where they mate with the transfer box drive gear, its a known fault on the lt77, you will probably need both replacing, thing...
