Smell of fuel when driving with window open

Hi Stopover, yes running on gas has the smell, but it's "fuel" cos I can't tell which. There's no signs of a leak that I can find, and I've checked the pipes to the top of the petrol pump, cos that was my thought. The car is running beautifully, which has me thinking about return pipes or...

    Phantom Vibration?

Pete38 brought up a good point there, are you on 18" wheels, cos they are horrible from half worn?

    Lack of acceleration

And keep the fluid level right in the autobox-your handbook will tell you how cos there's a few different ways. If it gets too low it's f****** expensive! Diesel autos are sluggish at best mind.

Smell of fuel when driving with window open

Ah-ha, no pressure when I open the petrol cap, that's a petrol leak (or de-pressurisation) somewhere isn't it? Or is it just a symptom of a less than quarter full tank? Am I clutching at straws?

Smell of fuel when driving with window open

Hi guys and gals, time to grovel and accept that saying my P38 was ultra reliable was tempting fate. Driving around I've found a really strong smell of fuel building up inside if we've the windows open, back ones in particular. It was so bad yesterday I felt sick. I've crawled under, over, round...

    Phantom Vibration?

Hi tech modern tyres-yep, gravity affects us all, it really only shows after weeks tho (the old Jag had stood for 3 months and it felt like the front suspension was coming off!!). If it was a rattle that stopped, it's fell off. Look for what's missing or a shiny bit under the Rangie

    Phantom Vibration?

Stop lying about smooth roads in this septic Isle! Possibly something stuck in tyres/brake/hub that got shook out at speed. Has you Rangie stood for a while? Cos if it has it could just be the tyres getting back to round again-it happened to me me with an elderly Jaguar and it was quite nasty

    Petrol

Just for info, my P38 doesn't like esso superunleaded, but is fine on ordinary from supermarkets! It coughs and bangs for a bit and doesn't pick up well at all, can't work that out-and it was over an exclusive use full tank. It's best on lpg of course( higher octane still), so I can't work that...

    Which Front Shocks??

i'd stick to OEM too, I've used armstrong(really, really cheap) and while they work fine when new, don't expect longevity, BOGE don't just supply Land Rover, they're OEM on Jaguar too and they last for ages along with performing superbly. Irishrover, are you in a mood today? A request for what...

    Am I Mad

A P38 diesel will pull your van with ease, a P38 petrol/lpg will pull your van and another with ease if you can figure the hitching. Check everything twice on any potential purchase and don't buy one without full history. You do hear horror stories but my P38 has been utterly reliable at 16 yrs...

Newer Range Rover: would you go for RRS or FFRR?

In the magazine reports, if I went to Cape Town I'd bloody well stay there

the joys of owning a rangie

My wife wouldn't divorce me if I got rid of my Rangie---she'd kill me, twice at least. She still complains about the fuel consumption mind you, but I love her anyway.

Newer Range Rover: would you go for RRS or FFRR?

I followed the L322 to Cape Town in LRO, and from memory it was a 53 plate (so not new) and had a collapsed wheel bearing during the trip. Still can't get away with the looks tho'

a few pics of my p38 now i sprayed the grill!

Do the wipers silver as well, go the whole hog. By the way, do silver moustache, beard, sideburns and eyebrows on a rapidly balding count??? Or should I use boot polish?

Newer Range Rover: would you go for RRS or FFRR?

Much as I appreciate the all round excellence of the L322, I can't take the ugliness and out of proportion looks (much too tall from the back) and to me (my opinion counts with me) the RRS is a much better balanced looking vehicle, and nearer my beloved P38 in looks. It's a shame about the...
