you will have excess water in bottom of engine that needs to be burned of. that will be the smoke you are getting i would of thort.. as for lpg im noy a fan of them so cannot help you, but if it wasnt running crrectly or should i say flwoing correctly then yes i reckon you will be running...

gav sometimes the oil goes the other way. if water gone in oil then dipstick will have specks on it. if oil gone in water then you wont see as water will sit on top of the oil. now im thinking you have a serious airlock as the pressure is building up to quick again. before you strip down again...

my 4ltr does 16.5 to work and back and last run i did got 25 to gallon at steady 62. i tell you im very gentle on the peddle tho. got it down to 8mpg few times giving it some welly tho. cor it shifts well and so does me wallet then.

if your wife uncle is good then get the valves recut as well it will run so much better after. cant see why you will need to buy new heads unless they are cracked which is unlikely, skimm is all you need. the bloke who skimms well tell you if they knanckerd anyway.

have you checked underneath?

it allways best to get the heads skimmed gav as being alloy they warp very quick once they get hot as in your case head gasket gone. couldnlt tell you a price for it but must be under £50 for pair. ya wifes uncle should revify that. when we raced rovers in cortinas as capris we allways got head...
