I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago........ turned out to be a pipe that had come off the air inlet pushed it back in hay presto problem solved

As above really but as for putting petrol in that's fine. It's actually good to put a LITTLE petrol in with the diesel it cleans your injectors so I wouldn't worry about changing your fuel filter unless it really needs doing

I checked that valve stem caps when I adjusted the tappets they're all good. She sounds as sweet as a nut now (barring the whine) it sounds almost lke a clutch baring but its an auto but im not clued up on autos

Cheers! :) Im pretty sure there was a decent size gap on the tappets but like I said it was a guess but there is a noticeable difference on the 4th and 5th tappets. I'll whip rocker cover off this weekend and have another look at the valve stem seals. If the valve stem seals had failed it...

Im guestimating but ive adjusted it and now sound's sweet as a nut baring the whine. The tapping got progressively worse over a couple of weeks

Quick update. Ive had the rocker cover off today to check the tappets and tappets 4 and 5 there was about 20mm gap! So thats the tapping sorted now for the whine but like 200tdi ayre said about the water pump. 1 on its way so we shall see if that stops it. Thanks again
