Steel Wheels - Paint Removal - Re Painting

Are they at all rusty or completely rust free? If any sign of rust, have them sandblasted, treated with a good rust inhibitor like bilt hamber then prime & overpaint. My choice would be rustoleum for a DIY paintjob.

    locking wheel nuts?

Careful buying s/h locking nuts. I did and when arrived it was clear that we're well knackered through years of ham fisted use. New ones aren't much more than £35.

best spotlights to hang upside down on a bar?

I've got some wipac ones to put on my A bar. The photos on the box show them mounted 'upside down' on a defender's A bar so I expect they'd be Ok. Thinking of fitting them just to be cool and to impress other road users. Not sure yet whether I'll get round to wiring them up.... Bit like the...

    need advise again please

Glad to hear i'm not the only one. Glad i bought an IR thermometer now.... When first noticed, the thermostat wasnt opening and it was properly starting to overheat. Changed the stat for one from a dealer and all works correctly now (apart from the temp reading just touching the red when its...

    need advise again please

I too have steve parker pipes on my disco conversion & used the sender they sent through with the water kit. My temp gauge reads warm within 10 mins in this weather - then continues to rise. Just as it hits the red my stat opens, at that point the needle remains on the lower edge of the red as...

    Paint advice please

Personally I despise hammerite these days. A decade or so ago it did what it said on the tin, nowadays to comply with modern VOC rules the composition has changed and it is watery rubbish that goes on too thin and gives little to no corrosion protection. But I know some on here swear by it...

    Chassis clean prior to galvanizing

I don't think this is right. When you see car monocoques that have gone off for stripping in the acid bath, they come back as raw clean steel. Obviously where rust has taken hold the steel is thinned or perforated at worst. But there is never any trace of rust left. Structurally it may be...

    1989 90 Rebuild

Good work so far. But does the engine really need a wire brush down? When I swapped mine in, the engine from a 91 disco was filthy, but a 2litres tub of gunk degreSNt saw the original block gold paint looking almost new again...

    CTEK battery chargers

I bought a 5 seeing as it's specced to do the batteries I have on my cars incl defender. They're not cheap so thought it wasteful to buy one bigger than necessary.

Home made bikini top - Is it summer yet?

Nice.... Couple of quick darts would sort out that saggy midriff. Time to get the sewing machine out! If you want a proper (new) exmoor bikini in khaki I might be offloading mine once the new one comes in.

    Body rust

That looks like the result of long term leakage to me..... Is it damp in the back often? Fix the leak while you're addressing the rust!

    Bulkhead rust repair!

The repair panels are iseful for giving you the correct angles but it seems like most people just pop rivet / silicone them on top of the rust. As already suggested, you need to see how bad it is and how far it extends. And when you're ready to take the plunge, chop away until you hit good...

    Bulkhead rust repair!

Not a 'how to' as such, but here are a load of photos showing how I repaired my bulkhead with rot in similar places. Bulkhead

    Pumkins vacation video #1

Very good sound deadening you've got there. Must get myself a good stereo like you've got. Scenery is quite nice too!

    90 Rebuild - Bobby

Cracking videos and work on the cars. Good workspace you've got there! Are you doing it professionally or just as a hobby?

    Mig welder amps

I'd agree with many others here. Mig is the way to go. Buy a good 2nd hand unit and check it over properly. It's just not worth 'learning' how to go that thin with MMA - as already said, its just not the tool for the job.

Flux Policy cancellation no refund ? Beware

Its not just a flux thing. Same thing happened to me with elephant a few years back. When you add in the cancellation and 'arrangement fee' of £50 I wouldn't ever expect a usable refund.

    Bush wires/cables

Yeah. Knock up a bracket from the windscreen bolt hole used to attach the soft top overdoor panel.
