    Noisy Demister Fan

The demister/cabin fan is making a slight fan-speed-related noise, sounds like it may have something stuck there rubbing against the blades or maybe need a lube. Can the fan spindle be lubed with a quick squirt of PTFE spray or something like that? Never accessed the fan, easy or acrobatic?

Cured 3 Amigos - handbrake Light still on?

Yes, it was the Brake Fluid Reservoir Sensor. It is an short circuit when 'good' A dollop of silver conductive paint was a stop-gap until I can get a new replacement. Really struggling to find one. Might have to be a scrapyard challenge.

Fitted new front drilled & vented discs to my 109,000 mile F1, with Delphi pads, all for under £60 off ebay... the difference is a 'bloody hell that's good' moment..

    Wheels squealing on roundabouts

Mine is squealing on the straights, stops when I ever so slightly bank right, starts when I ever so slightly bank left... I am hoping it's the end of the new handbrake cable rubbing on the new drum...when you say it WILL be the VCU it terrifies me, just broke the bank readying for the MOT! ;-)...

    Rustproofing Freddo ready for Winter

That looks good value - where do you get it? What is the best stuff to use on the stonechip surfaces of the rear wheel arch? I have a 10p size patch that needs the rust rubbed off and then re-coated with something like the thick stuff they apply at the factory. It's all worth it...granted it...

Cured 3 Amigos - handbrake Light still on?

Not that, if anything mine is set too tight, I get steep-hill full handbrake with 2 cliks of the ratchet.

Cured 3 Amigos - handbrake Light still on?

I will check that fluid sensor tomorrow. Still haven't found a source of a new one, anywhere on this planet. ?? One thing I wanted to mention, I replaced the mechanical plunger switch behind the footbrake on my journey to eliminate the 3 amigo's I notice the Haynes manual says the refitting...

Cured 3 Amigos - handbrake Light still on?

Had the 3 Amigo's and handbrake lights on. A new ABS sensor cured the 3 Amigo's (£40 from Ebay) , but the handbrake light remains on. I know the handbrake system is good, as it's all new parts. The handbrake switch works fine and signals on and off as it should. My brake fluid level switch...

Rear Brakes - Advice on replacing bits? (pics)

Thanks Taz, yep I thought the clean-up went better than expected. Perhaps I can get away with this now and just spend the next free cash on the cylinders. Obviously, I have no inner-sealing ring now on the Back-Plates, that flimsy metal, spot-welded thin ring. I could never see how it acted...

    Kwik-Fit Slap Hammer my brakes?

Update to close - took this on myself. I never did this before, so approached with some trepidation. The drums were well-and-truly seized. One handbrake cable had started to wear (the cables eventually fray and jam solid in the 'on' or 'off' position depending on how the dice rolls), and...

How the heck moment - Starter wires?

Sorry for late closure of this thread. It was just a dirty/loose contact terminal on the 12v feed wire to the starter. Removed, cleaned, Vaseline'd, no problems since - and fixed that weak-spot under the battery tray that was abrading the wires.

Anti-Roll Bars - DIY or Garage?

2001 Freelander I TD4 120,000 miles So far, still the nicest, most useful motor I ever had, despite the odd wear-and-tear bills. Last tyre change, fitter said the anti-roll bars need doing 'soon'. Anyone taken this job on at home with typical amateur DIY kit (axle stands only)? Do I...

Rear Brakes - Advice on replacing bits? (pics)

Thanks for your help folks, at lest I was able to get the car back on the road with the new parts until I get new back-plates. Here's another look at the cleaned-off old back-plates - the flimsy inner seal just crumbled away. Got new pads and Retaining Pins. All the link rods were fine...

Rear Brakes - Advice on replacing bits? (pics)

Yeah, last oil change a Land Rover specialist garage with the car up on ramps, said the bottom the car was overall in pretty good nick, he saw no major issues ahead though he didn't look at the rear brakes. The last MOT, that was done by a major garage. They passed the brakes, yet the drums...

Rear Brakes - Advice on replacing bits? (pics)

Hello folks, My Freelander 1 TD4 isn't stopping too well and the handbrake seems for cosmetic purposes only. Plus there has been grating noises from the rear drums on driving. First thing I found on removing the drums (a nightmare itself) was that on both rear brakes, the left (as you face...

How the heck moment - Starter wires?

here's where I am up to... I posted this picture as there is a wiring loom sat under the removed battery tray, and the insulation covering has been chaffed close to the point of breaking the wires inside the loon (see red arrow). Just thought I'd mention that, out of interest I suppose..

How the heck moment - Starter wires?

001 TD4 Freelander. I possibly have a loose or dirty contact on the 12v supply into the Starter (sometimes the car starts, other times not even a click). I have followed the Haynes manual as far as removing the main plastic engine cover, then removal of the battery and battery tray. But...
