So both the disco and the RR are the same size? I always thought the RR looked bigger but that's probably just the boxy shape. I didn't realise the RR rotted as bad as the early Discovery's.

I'm thinking if selling my Freelander for either a Discovery or Range Rover as my everyday car but I have a few questions: Which is smaller and handles road driving better since that's where 80% of the time it will be? Both being diesel 2.5 you can run them on 50% Veg oil? With a budget...

Sorry for thread revival but have a similar problem with my Freelander 1. I had the fuel filter changed on it and ever since then it works until you get to half a tank then the gauge just drops to empty?

Got the car back today. Mechanic has repaired the bracket and strengthened it so its stronger than the original. Lost a bit of fluid since the rod popped out but all sealed up again without any problems.

Thanks for that. After looking at the hydraulics they look newish so guess they got changed when they fitted the engine 12 months ago. The mechanic working on it is a Land Rover chap but he is more used to 90's and Range Rovers than a Freelander but should know what he's doing.

Just come back from the garage. Turns out the metal bracket on the engine had snapped and the slave cylinder seems Ok still. So he is going to try and weld a new bracket together and put it back on to see if it works before changing the clutch hydraulics if they need to.

That makes more sense in which case the Slave cylinder has ripped out. Once I get a new one fitted I'll keep and eye on it. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR ADVICE;)

I only bought it 12 months ago and the garage had just put a low mileage Rover 75 engine in and new clutch due to the previous engine popping the head gasket so wasn't expecting it to break so soon. You guys keep saying it needs to be maintained but how do you maintain a closed clutch hydraulic...

Don't suppose anyone knows why it had a hose clip around it to hold it in place since that cant be normal?

The Freelander has been dropped off at the closed garage so I'll have to phone them on Monday to see what they say. Never heard of a master cyclinder snapping and getting pushed off on a car until now.

Blimy didn't realise it was as common fault. Thought all I had to look out for was over heating with the 1.8. Perhaps I wont read the garage the riot act on Monday when they open in that case. Wonder why they attached it with a hose clip though?
