I get 22 mpg out of my 2.5 n/a and 24-5 ish on a long run. Its not exactly a gallon it's what I will get for a fiver. If that helps. Book says 23 mpg. It will tow a large lorry and has done.

This is a sleeve that is black plastic and the fins sit below the air intake on the enclosed box that holds the air filter. The rest of the plastic body covers the air filter above this. When I look at the filter it is like new under this plastic thing so I got wondering.

OK. got that. Really appreciate the time and patience. why does it cover half the air filter? I am trying to improve the breathing on my 2.5 n/a diesel so appreciate the advice.

I am expecting some abuse but I have to ask.....What is the plastic tube with fins on the bottom for covering a diesel air filter...and should I take it out to let more air in?:confused:

What would be a good cheap engine and gearbox for a series 3 88 inch 1972? I ask because my mates petrol 2/4 is knocking and the gears are jumping out of 2nd and 3rd. Knocking is from the bottom of the engine he says, i have not heard it. It is a lovely looking machine otherwise.

try a caravan fitter. got side windows in my 110 sealed rubber to match back for 200 quids would have been cheaper for cash. windows were 60 rest was labour.

Power steering pump maybe, possibly need to check if belt is tight enough for starters and then go from there.

Fascinating stuff this guys. I am thinking of the oil additive to the diesel especially if does not smoke. As for this Techron stuff its pretty expensive but equivalent miles and engine running much better. Smoke on pull off from junctions, acceleration up hills and on start seem to be a thing...
