Could be head gasket blown between an oilway, Try a compresion test, If 1 cylinder is alot less than the other 3 its a head, piston, block problem. If they are all arond the same its back to the endles list above. Its going to be a process of elimitaion really. Good luck.

I've allways found heat is a sure fire way to get anything loose. But you are sure to have a fire if not carefull. If you can't get oxxy accetalene, a map gas torch from B&Q will do. Get them cherry red and undo.

I havn't the foggyest idea what grades of oils to put in all I did was put automatic transmisson fluid in the gearbopx and ep90 in the rest. It sounds like your landy is allot better maintained than mine ever was. maybe you should get the transfer box checked out afterall it could be better...

I don't know if this will help but i have a disco diff in the rear and rrc diff in the front of my 200tdi 90 defender. The problem you may have is the number of splines on the end of the halfshaft. I have no idea what your or the disco diff would have. Hope this is of some help.
