Lights kill engine stone dead (any lights)

Wipers seem ok, or at least haven't triggered it yet and the radio is very rarely on (i.e. front face removed 99% of the time) so I haven't checked that. It's very weird as 50% of the time there simply isn't a problem or, as is more often the case, I drive 40 miles without missing a beat then...

Lights kill engine stone dead (any lights)

After some advice if possible. I've got a 1987 Defender/90 with 200Tdi engine conversion. Sometimes, only sometimes - maybe 50% of the time, and only in the first 30 minutes of being fired up, my Landy kills the engine whenever a light is switched on. These lights could be activated via...

    how to change wheel bearings

They're good lads at the garage. The mot place won't touch my Landy as he's scared of old diesel death traps so he says what he says and I take it elsewhere. ...it really is sh@t though (my series 3) needs putting out of its misery. But that's half the fun I'm told.

    What colour is your landy?

Mine is blue on the V5 but as I've done the entire car in black hammerite (with a brush) it's more of a navy. Totally recommend hammerite. Looks mint for a 29 year old Landy!

    how to change wheel bearings

Mine needs a front one doing to pass its MOT. My local Landy Specialist quoted me £100 to supply and fit one. ...this sounded like a decent price to me given all the fannying about.

Possibly suicide is the only way out - Series 3 info request

I reckon 20 mpg is about top end with my diesel. Most of that is smoke.

Synchromesh? Is that what that hideous crunching sound when I drop down to 1st & 2nd is? Ha! I did wonder!

Series 3, 2286 diesel, fuel leak - help please!

...phew, that's a relief! So long as it's not me and the dog. Anyway - great news. As of last night I have solved the leak scenario. The leak was coming out of the top of the glow plug hole and then deflecting to the back of the injection pipe - making it look like it was the injection...

Possibly suicide is the only way out - Series 3 info request

We're all friends here - you can call me Dan (woo!) Fair play to you - seems like a lot of work. But as you say, if you look at it as a series of small jobs I guess it's easier to turn each one over rather than tackle the lot all at once. Incidentally - I have located the source of my...

Are chassis handles those grabber things on either side of the back plate? I have no idea what they are for but they look manly.

In the spirit of cordial relations "hello, I'm Dan and I'm addicted to Land Rovers"

Oh I've dreamed of owning a bobble hat. Sadly my days of cutting a rakish figure around town are probably over now so I daresay my yearning for a bobble hat will never be fulfilled. (I am sure I'll understand what all these terms mean in time - are "bobbles" walkers perchance? "Archers"...

In the spirit of cordial relations "hello, I'm Dan and I'm addicted to Land Rovers"

Hello. I've jumped the gun somewhat by creating two threads prior to my introducing myself but I was giddy with excitement (and self-loathing) just having bought a 1983 Series 3 van back Land Rover and wanted to make it driveable. ...turns out that there wasn't so much of a fault with it and...

Series 3, 2286 diesel, fuel leak - help please!

Thanks very much. And doubly thanks for the childish giggle I emitted at the use of the word "nipple". I'll ask the local Landy man how much an "official" part is and take it from there - i.e. if it's less that £50 to supply and fit I'll have him do it. At least I know what to ask for now.

Good man. It's great this forum. Is there an O-ring that sits behind where it connects at either end?

Series 3, 2286 diesel, fuel leak - help please!

Checked the manual and it's a "Fuel injector feed pipe". Basically the thing has driven 4 miles since its last MOT in November so my driving it to my house (16 miles of hell) seems to have loosened everything somewhat. The fuel is kinda gushing out but I couldn't resist a spin last night...

Yeah that's the pipe. It's a long very thin copper pipe - and there's 4 of them, one for each cylinder. The far end one is leaking a boat load of diesel.

Series 3, 2286 diesel, fuel leak - help please!

To be honest it doesn't look exactly like that and I am struggling to find a picture. Below is a more modern Land Rover picture but the leak is in the same place. Imagine it's a Series 3 and the leak is just behind the nut near the top of the cylinder where the pipe enters the block. The...
