    Correct thermostat?

just went to my auto parts to get a replacement thermostat. It says 88 degrees, but there are slight differences in style. The spring is much bigger on the new one and the small end is also a different shape. It’s the one that came up on their parts book, so will it be ok, or does it look wrong?

    Front seatbelt

Ah, I got ya! So I know what you mean now. The photo I pinched from the Internet haha. My one has original metal there and good connection to the chassis. The chassis is also galvanised and solid. But that's all talking about where the reel sits, right? That about the end that connects onto the...

    Front seatbelt

I just had a look, but no idea where the YRM bracket goes? I assumed the bracket for the seat belt single end (I.e. Not the reel) shown in the pictures above just bolts into the sill? It's a 1990 defender that I have, so I image these are original seatbelts

    Front seatbelt

First one (the one I have) is a standard Land Rover for the early 90s. In my parts book But just want to check if I can replace for the newer style.

    Front seatbelt

First pic is what I have, where both ends of the seetbelt are attached to the reel. Next two photos show the other option which would mean buying a bracket (£10) that bolts to the sill and B post, that allows each end of the seatbelt to be attached at different locations

    Front seatbelt

Been looking at this all day. To get the direct replacement seat belts is going to be expensive. But if I fit this bracket to the sill and the B(?) post, I can then fit a standard seatbelt which are readily available. It also means less restrictions due to the bucket seats. So is this an...

    Front seatbelt

i’ve installed bucket seats from PowerfulUk, and now my seatbelts are tricky to use and rubbing. They are the kind that both ends connect into the reel. I can see other kinds where one end connects into the seat box? My parts book shows them as being for V8 and soft top. So could I fit these...

    300tdi running hot

Great thanks folks. Got a long journey on Saturday. I’ll have time to change the thermostat over but not sure about the water pump. So, what’s your thoughts on what has actually gone wrong? Just not enough fluid in the sysstem? And the thermo being stuck closes? Or is there a high chance the...

    300tdi running hot

So where do those sensors feed the info to? What are they for? By the image I can see they are water temp switches, but what does that mean / what do they do?

    300tdi running hot

Yeh I have watched a few videos on YouTube so think I understand the draining, flushing and filling.... but not quite how it all works! If my thermostat was broken, would that stop coolant getting to the u-bend in my last photo? And also explain the engine overheating... or at least getting hot...

    300tdi running hot

Rad was full. Brown water came out. Engine had water that came out clear. Header tank also had water though. Flushed through everything. I’m hoping the coolant level has just been too low and the thermostat being gubbed has resulted in the over heating. But, why would the header tank have...

    300tdi running hot

Hmm. I just took the thero out and it doesn’t work when put in hot water. New one required. However, I don’t think water has gone through there in a long time! Water in the header tank, but the pipes were bone dry and burn looking!! How would I test my water pump? Water came out the rad and...

    300tdi running hot

Thanks! So ultimate question then, should the water temp sensors be connected to something or is that an option on the different cars? Where does the gauge in my car get it’s reading from? Is that more oil temperature rather than coolant?

    Red cable on starter?

Right, so I had minimal resistance between the cable and earth, but also the engine and earth, so defo an earth cable. Reconnected it to an earth and the issues I had starting never happened, so must have been something else causing that problem! So I just disconnected the cable and chucked...

    300tdi running hot

300tdi, sat for 2 years. I’ve been running it for 30 mins each night this week. I noticed the temp gauge in the cab was sitting about 3/4 the way up. I went to locate the thermostat and noticed these two sets of connectors. Should they be connected to anything? Is the thermometer inside this...

    Red cable on starter?

Makes sense. So I wonder what’s going on to cause the issue! I’ll look again today. I have battery to chassis and battery to transfer (or gearbox, can’t remember!). I’ll check the resistance of that wire again and report back! I’m so confused!

    Red cable on starter?

No, sorry, maybe I am not being clear. One end of the cable is connected to the bolt on the starter as shown in my photos. The other end is loose. If I keep it loose (I.e isolated from everything), everything in the car works. When I bolted the loose end to the chassis, the car wouldn’t start...

    Red cable on starter?

I agree with what your saying, that was my thinking when I was re-wiring. However, with it connected to earth, the car doesn’t start. Disconnected the car runs fine. I assume while disconnected the Starter is just earthing through another route. If I earth the loose end of the cable, the car...

    Red cable on starter?

I assumed it was an earth as it was onto the mounting bracket of the started, but when I hooked it onto a good earth, the car wouldn’t turn over. I turned the key and I just heard a relay clicking. Disconnected it from the earth and it worked fine. So I assume the cable to the engine bay fuse...

    Red cable on starter?

i’ve re-wired my G reg 90 following the bulkhead change out. Previously the engine was changed out for a 300tdi. I have a thick red cable coming off a bolt on the starter- no idea where it goes. I don’t know if it was connected to anything before I took the bulkhead out. I found a previous...
