i’ve installed bucket seats from PowerfulUk, and now my seatbelts are tricky to use and rubbing. They are the kind that both ends connect into the reel.

I can see other kinds where one end connects into the seat box? My parts book shows them as being for V8 and soft top. So could I fit these? Where is the fixed end actually connected to?

Also, looked up replacement seatbelts as they are a bit damaged. But they are SO expensive! Is there other options?

Been looking at this all day. To get the direct replacement seat belts is going to be expensive. But if I fit this bracket to the sill and the B(?) post, I can then fit a standard seatbelt which are readily available. It also means less restrictions due to the bucket seats.

So is this an acceptable upgrade? Or is there anything stopping me changing?

Got some pics of what you mean would help.

But seat belt fixing is a very critical thing and they need to be up to a high standard and not just a bolt here and there though a floor pan/ seat box.

Be careful here.

First pic is what I have, where both ends of the seetbelt are attached to the reel.

Next two photos show the other option which would mean buying a bracket (£10) that bolts to the sill and B post, that allows each end of the seatbelt to be attached at different locations

Ok I have to say firstly I have never looked at the belts in our 90. But will tomorrow.

But the first pick don’t look like standard fitting, obviously it has passed MOT and I can’t see what’s underneath.

Now the second arrangement has a LR part number so I would assume is up to standard. So would be doable.

Not sure of the model use this bracket but it should be a strong area it’s bolted too and/or reinforcements under. Have a good look and see what you have to bolt to in that area.

I will get pics tomorrow when I look at ours. To see what we have.

First one (the one I have) is a standard Land Rover for the early 90s. In my parts book
But just want to check if I can replace for the newer style.

The first picture is standard seat belt on my 96 90.
Looks like you have a YRM repair panel in there Rorie. Have you got the YRM galvanised steel panel underneath, as this might help where you can bolt to.

I just had a look, but no idea where the YRM bracket goes? I assumed the bracket for the seat belt single end (I.e. Not the reel) shown in the pictures above just bolts into the sill?

It's a 1990 defender that I have, so I image these are original seatbelts

Ok Rorie, this might be a bit tricky to explain. But, in your picture it looks like you have one of these.

It's used to repair the panel behind the front seats. Your picture shows your seat belt real bolted through it.
Hopefully, who ever did that also bought a pair of these.

They are galvanised steel and sit underneath the panel above. You would have to lie under your landy to be able to see it. The two panels bolt together and, importantly, to the chassis. This system repairs the original seat belt mounts when the original ones have rotted away.
If you have all of this, and your chassis is in good nick where it bolts too, then you will be ok for a solid seat belt mount. If you haven't got the steel bit underneath, I'd check the top bit hasn't just been put in as a cosmetic cover over some serious corrosion.

Ah, I got ya! So I know what you mean now. The photo I pinched from the Internet haha. My one has original metal there and good connection to the chassis. The chassis is also galvanised and solid.

But that's all talking about where the reel sits, right? That about the end that connects onto the sill and door post? I don't have that arrangement just now, but if I got the bracket and bolted into sill and door post, I should be fine?

This bracket btw

I don't know, I haven't seen that arrangement before. Must be newer model than marjon or I have seen. I'm surprised the sill is considered strong enough for a seat belt mount. Maybe, together with the B pillar, it is.

What you have fitted is classed as “early” seatbelts, I’m not sure what years are classed as “early” though.

The later photos are what I have fitted to my 1992 110 CSW. The seatbelt reel is bolted through the rear of the front seat box, to a steel plate. I think the steel plate is also bolted to the chassis. The top of the seatbelt bolts to the B post. The lower seatbelt mount is bolted through the seatbox, and steel side rail/sill section. It is also bolted backwards, through the seatbox and into the B post.

Mine's a 1996, Mick. Four years younger than yours and has the "early" seat belt mounts ;) :)

No idea what landrover class as early, unless mine should have had the same as yours and someone has fitted “later” style to mine?

No idea, Mick. I think sometimes Land Rover fitted whatever was lying around on the factory floor at the time

Not really much help
But our 96 has the same setup
