Classic LSE Not So Rolling Resto and Discovery 300Tdi Daily

Hi All, Nearly two weeks of motoring down. Only one failure to proceed and four days on the driveway unavailable for use. Failure to proceed was a dicky connection on the fuel pump which I actually remember first finding when I put the tank back in. Seems it hasn't fixed itself. I've...

After a week of attempts to diagnose the emissions issue, I've ended up doing the following... Found and repaired a break in the earth to the odd (left) bank lambda sensor Fitted a full ignition upgrade kit from RPI (Amplifier, Coil, Leads, Cap, Rotor and Plugs) Took it for a 30 mile round trip...

The Little Discovery That Could (financially ruin me)

One of the most entertaining threads I’ve read in a long time. Subscribed for regular reminders that I’m not the only one with a car that clearly doesn't like me even though I’m trying to treat it better than the last owner. Rich

Ok, I don’t seem to have any significant vacuum leaks I don’t think. Some smoke was escaping around the throttle spindle but I would assume that would be corrected by the base idle and idle CO adjustments. Checked for a dead cylinder with the laser thermometer and found the odd bank to be...

Exactly. I’m quite pleased. The engine is running better than ever in my ownership but clearly not well enough. I’m hoping if I make a big push to fix some of the other bits too before the retest it should be pretty good by the time I’m driving it. It’s insured for the year now so I have to get...

Well that’s a bit more interest than I probably expected to be honest! Before it’s too late… Could be better. Could be worse I suppose. The headlight was working before I left. Other than those it would have been a clean sheet which isn’t bad to say it had no front prop shaft installed and...

Well I've done a little more work since the last update. Mostly bashing my head against a wall trying to get the car ready for an MoT Test. Not quite there yet but I think I've cracked the last thing stopping me taking it in now. Firstly, the distraction is growing fast... After the...

Classic Classic EAS Diagnostics Help Near Nottingham

I'm pretty certain that I don't have any bypass kit on mine. I think that all it does on a p38 is gets rid of the message on the dash saying there is an EAS fault. On the classic the only indication of an EAS fault as far as I am aware is that the lights in the up and down switches flash so...

Hi Grrr. Long time without speaking. Hope you’re doing well. We moved back north about a year ago to be closer to family as I’m working from home full time. I don’t think I have a bypass loom of any sort fitted. The EAS wiring all seems to be as ok the diagrams so far as I can tell. The delay...

If the fuel gauge is anything like my Disco the gauge being quarter down has no relation to a quarter of the fuel having been consumed. Discovery reliably does 100 miles before moving off full, another 150 by the time it says 3/4 but never more than about 600 on a full tank. Rich

Well done with the test Rich. What’s next then, finishing touches to the conversion to make it better or on to the discos? I know for me I’d be falling into the ‘temporary unless it works’ trap and moving on to a new project leaving a snagging list to never really get around to. Rich

I can definitely see that the Dremmel might be easier for this kind of precision work. I do actually have someone in the family that I might try borrowing one off. He owes me a favour as I put a new clutch and flywheel in his BMW two weeks ago. Rich

I think it might have suffered differently due to the more exposed nature in the classic under the floor, or perhaps that lead to different materials to be chosen. Seeing as the p38 one seems to work I think I’ll ignore the issue. Perhaps it would be interesting to dig the potting out just to...

Classic Classic EAS Diagnostics Help Near Nottingham

So the driver pack swap worked. More of a pain than expected as the physical installation is a fair bit different… First is a p38 driver pack mocked up on the classic valve block. Second is the classic driver pack after removal. The classic one mounts with two cap screws that are under the...

that’s great advice. I don’t have a Dremmel but I have an air die grinder that I could try. I guess the Dremmel would be a bit more delicate but I’ll see how I get on. Thanks. Rich

Hi Datatek, Should have tagged you on this one I suppose! I did wonder if there may be a way to repair it. I have 5 of 6 solenoids which won’t trigger when I put power to them from the ECU connector. Continuity to the driver pack connector from the ECU connector is good. The potting on my...

So I've managed to determine that I have a bad driver pack for starters. Don't think it explains my issues above but it's not going to work. Can anyone think of a reason why the P38 version won't work? It has wiring in it for the pressure sensor, but that's on pins that aren't used on the...

Hi All, Bottom Line: I need help with getting my EAS to work on my classic after reinstating much of the system. It has never worked in the time I've had the car but all the components seem to check out as far as I can tell. I'm located in Nottingham UK if anyone is willing to help me in...
