    Alarm problem vehicle immobilised!!!

Headlining down at rear (30 mins max) and I could see the original earth had not been connected to the receiver unit. Since I had bought the receiver I fitted it and YES result all sorted now the blipper has far more range and car is mobile again. Since the fabric was sagging all over the...

    Cost effective repair work

second hand engine from Colne or on ebay would be worth a punt. Feel for you but would'nt touch a Disco 3/4 simply cos of the repair costs. (that said my 2 is currently disabled with an imobiliser fault!) try a google on reconditioned engines must be cheaper than £9k!!!

    Alarm problem vehicle immobilised!!!

great info as always thanks. Its supposed to be hot and sunny tomoz and I reckon that will get it working again. Once lining is down I can change the receiver and hopefully that will do the trick. If I can find someone locally I will then make the change to always disarm with key to make it...

    Alarm problem vehicle immobilised!!!

OK following on from my other thread the Disco is now immobilised, the key will not work the central locking or disarm the immobiliser. Luckily its on my drive and not needed immediately. Its forecast warm and dry and my experience to date has been that once its bone dry it will work again. I...

headlining and replacing remote receiver box

yes new batteries in both fobs. It's actually the car that forgets the link with the key. It's possible its a poor earth on the receiver box but I wont know until I actually get to it. There was a landrover update on this but I think the unit is affected by damp it was fine for ages when it was...

headlining and replacing remote receiver box

My remote unlocking and more importantly alarm/immobilser is becoming less reliable and appears to be adversely affected by the wet weather. Looks like its time to drop the roof lining and replace the remote receiver, so a couple of questions: - How long is it likely to take me to get...

    front spotlight wiring kit

mine played up so i rewired them the old fashioned way with a rocker switch on the dashboard and relay triggered by main beam cost me nothing as I nicked all the bits from a car being scrapped next door. The control box is an unnecessary and expensive complication which is unreliable. Mine work...

How many dont have an Engine Cooling Fan?

Just an added thought, the engine cover must hold heat in, and prevent the head dissipating heat, might be worth taking it off whilst towing in hot temperatures. Would the engine be much noisier? Any thoughts?

How many dont have an Engine Cooling Fan?

Wise words indeed! Just to add an old tip that us oldies will know but there may some be that dont, if the engine starts running hot, open the windows turn the heater on full and the blower on full blast (and turn air con and all unecesary electrics off) You might swelter, but you might just...

How many dont have an Engine Cooling Fan?

I take mine off in the winter, but its back on when it gets warmer. Towing a horse trailer there are some very long hills around here, and the engine smells hot even though the temp gauge doesnt move.........

    TD5 discovery...... Help

Ours will rev over 3000, but sounds far too busy in the process, and although I have gone to 4000, 3000 is my normal limit. Theres plenty of torque between 2000 - 3000 (we tow a horse trailer, also about 2 tons). Towing with a TD5 is not about speed, its more capability, if you need to run up...

    Opinions on high mileage TD5

146,500 on ours with no engine issues. Bits wear of course like propshafts, gearbox (our syncro is a bit tetchy, but ok if you are patient) we have no service history but I suspect the head gasket may have been done (new clips on lots of the cooling pipes) Critical thing really is how does it...

Looking to buy, info on possible faults

Very good point, which I think is pretty much true. I am old enough to remember my dad changing his Anglia for a Mini, and the thinking then was the mini was a nightmare to work on!!!! Having rebuilt 2 minis I cant see what they were worried about!!!! We are getting more specialised companies...

Looking to buy, info on possible faults

eeek!!!!! And eeeekkkk! again cos the customer isnt capable of changing a bulb themselves, have people got no practical skills these days? I agree main dlr prices are daft yet there is a whole raft of people who wouldnt risk not using a main dealer because they simply dont understand their...

Looking to buy, info on possible faults

have a look on Disco3.co.uk they also have a section on the D4, if that dont put you off you must have VERY deep pockets! A mate who works at a LR dealer says to bargain on at least £1000 every time the car goes in. I Think LR have lost their way, it's just so complicated repair costs are a...

Disco 2 service history and advice

Agree with Dave entirely, people put too much reliance on service history which may or may not have been done, and even if serviced at the intervals could have been run without oil in the meantime by a careless owner!!! Drive it and compare to others - it's the only way.
