Hi. I've just joined the website and I'm already asking for help with my td5 disco. The problem is I've never had one before so I don't know what to expect power wise but it seams very weak compared to my fourtrak. I use it for towing (2 tonne max) and I find it very under powered. No smoke at all. only seems to rev to about 3k under normal driving, can push it a little further in low gears but it doesn't seem to have anything left after 3k.

I've read through a lot of old topics and checked a few things out with no luck. I was wondering if anyone in or around Bakewell, Derbyshire has a fault code reader to see if anything shows up.

Any help or advise on how to check things would be great.

Ours will rev over 3000, but sounds far too busy in the process, and although I have gone to 4000, 3000 is my normal limit. Theres plenty of torque between 2000 - 3000 (we tow a horse trailer, also about 2 tons).

Towing with a TD5 is not about speed, its more capability, if you need to run up a hill in 3rd then thats the speed you tow at - it's a rather different experience!

Our TD5 had not been well maintained and each bit we did to it made a perceptable difference, and it drives far better now.

remove the egr valve and that will make a noticeable difference, as will an oil and filter change. have a look here at what we have done to ours:

Thanks for the advise.

I'm used to towing and change my driving style accordingly but there must be something a miss if i'm running out of power in 2nd gear on a hill that I would normally fly up 3rd or 4th.

I've ordered one of the egr blanking kits that comes with the pipe piece so I can do away with it completely.

I'll look into the oil in the injector harness problem. I know it had a new harness less than 6 month ago. ( this was previously my cousins, He had a recon gearbox, clutch, prop shaft, harness, and various other problems and then the ace system failed big time so I swapped it for a subaru impreza and fitted standard type anti roll bars and changed the air springs back to coils)

I'll check the wastegate asap also. Should I be able to move it by hand or is there another way to check it.

Just in case it matters. I have fitted the full change over kit from dls to swap it from ace to solid roll bars but I haven't had the slabs reset. This wouldn't make it run in a safe mode would it?

3 amigo's, Thats a new one on me. If you mean the three power bands I've uprated them to extra stretchy one's for a quicker response.
 
Do search on 3 Amigos !!!

Basically...3 warning lights on at same time. TC, HDC and ABS.

Hi Rasher, is yours auto or manual gearbox. This can make a big difference.

Its a manual.

The egr blanking kit has arrived so If I get chance tomorrow I'll fit that and clean the sensor and see what happens.

Hi bud I had same problem, would not pull up a hill in 3rd at all, unplug the MAF and try that this will put the jeep into factory setting, mine was noticably different so I replaced the MAF and now ok.
Jeep ran fine with it unplugged aswell but think was a bit poorer on fuel.
 
Well I've cleaned the sensor and completely removed the egr valve and its made a massive difference. The sensor was blocked solid with oily ****. it now revs up and pulls much better up hills etc. Its still a bit sluggish under 2000 rpm but apparently td5 are like that. I'll give it a chance and see how it is when I get the trailer on.
