    Change of number plates

you could, I ended up using a bread knife!!!! An aternative is to use fishing line to cut through the adhesive pads. Once you are able to get an end up (oh er) you can get a knife in behind. Once off a heat gun used carefully will soften the adhesive remaining from the pads so they can be peeled...

Off to look at a D2 tomorrow, help with a checklist?

And mine on 147 k miles, revving a bit in first then changing up before the revs die away gives me a better change to second whilst 3rd needs slow selection......

    Warning facelift owners!!!!

Interesting, on airgunbbs (one of my other hobbies) a few members paid a visit to a couple of brothers in Cheltenham, who had been scamming airgun buyers for ages. Net result is one of the brothers is in prison....... Might be an idea for a few LZ users to visit this chap and collect the...

    Warning facelift owners!!!!

Yes think the glass etching is a more practical deterrent, some policing might help also! Actually if the parts could be made available far more cheaply it would mean it wouldnt be worth pinching them.........

    Warning facelift owners!!!!

Its possible to get either self adhesive or implanted coded chips (as used in cats, but also horse saddles) that are very small yet with an appropriate scanner can be read and the real user traced on a central database. Not fabulously expensive (will ask the wife if anyone is interested, she...

Disco 2 - worth the extra over an older model?

You can always rely on an informed and substantiated view on here - not! Anyway I have a TD5 manual Disco 2 and would recommend it if you can find a sound one. Ours has covered 150k miles but has a very strong engine, slightly techy gearbox (manual) but is otherwise sound. They can be pricey...

    diff lock

that happened to mine - was blown brake light fuse (happened when I plugged in trailer which turned out to have faulty wiring) have a look at the fuse first!

Disco 2 with body shudder at 60 - 70 mph

Or dont drive it over 60! Ours starts to vibrate at that speed and since we only use it for towing or in bad weather I have left it, think ours maybe the front prop, as the vibration seems to eminate from that area.....

headlining and replacing remote receiver box

OK time for an update. Disconnected the battery to kill the alarm and dropped the headlining. It was clear that the earth tag to the receiver box had not been connected from new! Since I had the new unit I replaced it with the earth tag this time, reconnected the battery and it now works...

    Discovery 3 reliability?

Heres an idea, find a typical car then get a warranty quote from one of the car warranty providers. Whatever they quote will give you some idea of how much they would expect to spend on such a vehicle. I did this and from memory the warranty cover was around £2700 for 24 months............

    Discovery 3 reliability?

Theres a disco 3 forum around, have a look on there, there is a section I think for common issues which may help you. I think you will find maintenance costs a bit of a leap from your defender!!!!

    Key fob/eka problem Discovery 2 (1999 TD5)

Have to say I was really concerned about having the car totally disabled but was pleased it was such a simple fix - good luck.

    Key fob/eka problem Discovery 2 (1999 TD5)

That used to work with ours, but if you have to do this its a sign something is wrong. Best to sort out the key/radio receiver problem before the vehicle is totally disabled (as ours was).........

    Key fob/eka problem Discovery 2 (1999 TD5)

Just had EXACTLY the same issue!!!! In my case it was the receiver in the headlining, bought a replacement at £30, and fitted it, BUT when I dropped the headlining I found the earth tag had never been connected! I think my original unit was fine it was just a poor earth!! Drop the rear part...
