Lately the td5 postings on here are all about not getting it to start. I've tried everything but nothing works. I've fitted all new parts but still not going. Etc etc. The ones that work 100% and never give trouble, they are not on here. I have 200 and 300tdi and happy with them.

I split mine.

Wd40 on the steering universal joints. If it gets better, time to change one or two.

Why would you want to do this. Take the engine out, take the gearbox out and bolt them back together. You now have the engine and gearbox as one.

Sounds like something is overheating and then working when cool again. Try a diagnostic test when it is hot and faulty. 5 miles or 50 miles, go drive in 2nd gear at high revs and see if it cuts out quicker. Bypass as much of the fuel system as possible and see if this works

Sounds like you have done everything up to getting it on a diagnostic machine of some sort. Maybe ask if anyone nearby has one. Dont think you can remap the early ones, later ones can be done I think. Just have to step up to the next stage and either get it diagnosed at the dealer or maybe get...

Tool like this helps. Pipe easy to bend. Lots of wd40 and if you take your time and maybe apply a little heat, you could save a lot of time if it comes apart properly.

Pop in a new engine temp sensor and see if it makes a difference. Mine went wild before committing suicide.

Piece of metal on the bench and weld on different settings until you get the best finish. Get a pic online to see what it should look like. Then away you go.

I thought the Discovery was just a parts vehicle for the 90, 110, Defender. Never realised people used them.

You are missing something not getting a 200tdi or a 300tdi. If you like working on your own vehicles, these are the ones to own.

100% Last use was sucking oil from top end of engine so I could see timing marks on camshaft of alfasud.

It's fine, just drive it and enjoy it. They are just bolt together vehicles that sometimes have older and newer parts bolted in place of old broken or damaged parts. Its registered and good to go. My 86 90 has very little 86 90 left in it. I just drive it.:)

I am just guessing, all you would need is a bar welded across the rear chassis with the rear body mounting plates on. Rear cross member will stick out a bit, put a flat plate on top of it. Other way is to shorten chassis.
